As previously reported, Page, 60, is planning to pen an autobiography chronicling LED ZEPPELIN's years of rock 'n' roll excess.

"There are a lot of stories to be told about what went on and insights to give into things that people don't really know about," he said at the launch of the British Walk of Fame last month. "So there's a good book to be written and I'm thinking about writing it."

Page became the first artist to be immortalized in Britain's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The guitarist officially opened the new attraction on London's Piccadilly by casting his handprints in cement.

Bronze Glyndr takes a bow Sep 11 2004

ROCKER Robert Plant has helped fund a statue of his hero, Owain Glyndr.

The Led Zeppelin frontman attended the unveiling of the bronze statue at Pennal, near Machynlleth, an area where he owns a farmhouse and where the 1970s band were believed to have written their classic song, Stairway to Heaven.

The sculpture is the centrepiece of a £35,000 medieval garden which was the brainchild of the Rev Geraint ap Iorwerth, rector of St Peter ad Vincula Church in Pennal.

Hollywood actress Julia Ormond, whose grandmother was from Pennal, and Wales rugby hero Ray Gravell also made donations towards the costs together with many people from the local community.

The opening of the garden is part of Pennal Festival, celebrating the 600th anniversary of Owain Glyndr's coronation in Machynlleth and the holding of his first parliament.

Sculptor David Haynes, 48, from Bethesda, who created and donated the statue said, "Robert Plant has been interested in Owain Glyndr since he was a boy and he has many connections with Mid Wales.

"I had the idea to make the sculpture back in 1999 because I wanted to create something dramatic to mark the millennium.

"It was made out of plaster and cast in bronze at Castle Fine Arts in Llanrhaeadr- ym-Mochnant, Powys, which coincidentally is a only a few miles from Glyndr's home at Sycharth.

"He has a sword and a shield and below the four foot figure, I have carved battle scenes and emblems to show how Welsh history is intertwined with English history along the border.

"I didn't want it to be about separatism but more about how our two nations are stuck together, like it or not."

The bronze sculpture took Mr Haynes, a former zookeeper at Colwyn Bay Zoo and Chester Zoo, several months to make.

There are four slate circles in the garden, with plaques to commemorate the family and supporters of Owain Glyndr.

One carries the names of Glyndr's wife Margaret and their children. The second has the names of the Princes of the Golden Age of Gwynedd. The third is to the clerical supporters. The fourth is dedicated to Owain Lawgoch, the last Prince of the royal dynasty of Gwynedd.

The garden was designed by Peter Styles from Newtown, Powys, who has been involved in landscape and design around the world.

(09/09/04) -- It may be a scientific fact that Rock 'n' Roll wouldn't exist without the germination of the blues. But a similar, albeit more contested theory states that a healthy bulk of songs by the mighty Led Zeppelin wouldn't exist without the influence of blues legend Lead Belly. Hmmm. Something to think about. That's one of many reasons the late blues troubadour will be honored at Shine a Light on Me: The Life of Legacy of Lead Belly - presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum's Ninth Annual American Music Masters series. The week-long commemoration wraps up with a tribute concert Sunday, November 7th at Severance Hall, with a performance by Zeppelin's Robert Plant. Other artists covering the late-bluesman's tunes include Robert Lockwood Jr., Los Lobos and Dave Alvin. Considered one of the great Blues guitarists of all time, Lead Belly's life was marked with turmoil, having spent much of his life in and out of prisons, convicted of such charges as murder and assault.

A tribute concert honoring late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and his brother Michael will be held Saturday in Surrey, England. A Night for Bonzos will include performances by ex-Who/Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones and founding Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden. JASON BONHAM Talks About The Possibility Of A LED ZEPPELIN Reunion - Oct. 3, 2004

UFO drummer Jason Bonham recently spoke to Glam-Metal.com about his work with Phil Mogg and co. and the possibility of a LED ZEPPELIN reunion with him on drums. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

Glam-Metal.com: Me being a huge ZEPPELIN fan, I was wondering if you had any inside info on [the possibility of a LED ZEPPELIN reunion]?

Jason Bonham: "No, there's nothing. Robert [Plant] came to see UFO during the English tour. I mentioned to him that I hear all these rumors, and I said, 'What do you think, Robert? Tell me what's going on, I hear all this stuff.' He said, 'Don't believe any of them, nothing's happening.' To me, I respect whatever they decide to do. If they want to do it and want to ask me, I say great. If not, that's up to them. It's something that they really have to believe in. It would have to be something that would be fun for them. I mean, when you're that wealthy, financial gain doesn't mean anything. No matter how much money was dangled in front of them, they wouldn't do it for that. It would really have to be for them. For me, if they ever wanted to do it, I give them my blessing. They're legends."

Glam-Metal.com: You get along well with them right?

Jason Bonham: "Oh yes. We probably don’t speak as much as we should, and Robert's father just died recently, and I haven't really spoken to him after that. I sometimes think, what do I say? What can you say though, you know? One of the nicest things Robert ever said to me recently was, 'You have a sparkle back in your eyes, which is really nice.' That really made me happy."

Glam-Metal.com: Did he not like your drinking in the past because of what happened with your dad?

Jason Bonham: "Probably. There are a lot of things I don’t want to get into about that. I don’t mind talking about dad and stuff, because that's part of my life, you know? For me to pretend to be like him, and do the same things he used to do is over. I can see past it now. It took me thirty-eight years and sobriety to realize who Jason Bonham is."

Glam-Metal.com: Sure, I totally understand.

Jason Bonham: "Robert has a son that's an excellent singer; all the reviews have been brilliant. His band is called BLACK COUNTRY BANDITS (http://www.thebcbs.com/). They just opened up for VELVET REVOLVER in the U.K. He looks and sounds stunning."

Robert Plant to Speak, Play at South by Southwest

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant will deliver the keynote address at the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference in Austin on March 17.

He will also perform during the conference, marking his first shows in the United States since his opening slot on the Who's summer 2002 tour. Next year will also bring reissues of Plant's solo catalog via Rhino/Atlantic.

Plant can be heard guesting on the Big Town Playboys' new album, "Roll the Dice," along with fellow veteran British artist Jeff Beck, and will be on hand for a Nov. 7 concert at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland to celebrate the legacy of legendary bluesman Lead Belly.

His 1994 "MTV Unplugged" performance with Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page will be issued on CD and DVD Tuesday via Rhino.

Former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has begun work on a new solo album -- the follow-up to 2001's The Thunderthief http://www.johnpauljones.com/disc.html. Light shines on Lead Belly during stellar tribute concert

What do classic-rocker Robert Plant, the Chicano roots-rock band Los Lobos and neo-bluegrass singer-fiddler Alison Krauss have in common?

Not much, on the face of it - which is why it was such a thrill to see them sharing the stage Sunday night at Severance Hall for a salute to the late Lead Belly.

The singer-guitarist was "one of the giants of American popular music," said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The stellar tribute concert put an exclamation point on the ninth annual American Music Masters series, presented by the Rock Hall and Case Western Reserve University.

Lead Belly (real name: Huddie Ledbetter) died in 1949. By his own estimate, the singer-guitarist had a repertoire of 500 songs encompassing a range of styles, from folk to children's music to blues.

"This is a great way of saying some kind of protracted thank you for all those great songs," Plant said.

The ex-Led Zeppelin frontman was at the center of some of the evening's greatest moments, including a mesmerizing rendition of "In the Pines," done as a duet with Krauss.

Plant and Krauss teamed up with Los Lobos for "Pretty Little Girl With the Red Dress On," with Plant sideman Justin Adams coaxing exotic riffs from a tahardent, an African lute. The cross-cultural hootenanny had 2,000-plus concertgoers clapping along enthusiastically.

Backed by the Tarbox Ramblers and the Cleveland Four gospel quartet (Carlton Fellows, James Houston, Kennedy Jones and Reginald Lewis), Plant also did right by "Alabama Bound," one of many traditional tunes popularized by Lead Belly.

The show got off to a shaky start with a rambling introductory speech by Harry Belafonte.

Some two hours later, the gig ended abruptly after Plant and Los Lobos conspired on a plaster-rattling "Gallows Pole." A planned all-star finale failed to materialize.

Despite the venue's storied acoustics, the sound quality was subpar at times. The ever-changing array of musicians onstage presumably didn't make it easy to maintain a perfect mix.

Nonetheless, those minor shortcomings were offset by a series of once-in-a-lifetime performances, including veteran folk-singer Odetta's resounding version of "You Don't Know My Mind," a fun romp through "Rock Island Line" by singer-songwriter John Hiatt, and Los Lobos' rambunctious take on "Bottle Up and Go."

Hiatt and Los Lobos joined forces, too, for a transcendent "Midnight Special."

Perhaps the night's most pleasant surprise was wayward punk Jon Langford, who delivered a politically charged kick in the pants to the tune of "Bourgeois Blues."

Lead Belly's love for the blues was further represented by hometown hero Robert Lockwood Jr.'s masterful "Easy Rider" (aka "See See Rider") and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, accompanied by Dan Zanes & Friends for a boogie-style "4, 5 and 9."

Also making appearances were folkies Oscar Brand and Josh White Jr., as well as Lead Belly's niece, Queen "Tiny" Robinson.

"This is one of the highlights of my life," roots-rocker Dave Alvin said before he dusted off "New Orleans (The Rising Sun Blues)."

He no doubt echoed the sentiments of many others on the bill - and in the audience.

In shining a light on Lead Belly, the Rock Hall's signature local event basked triumphantly in the afterglow.

LED ZEPPELIN's 'Stairway' Tops Rock Song Poll - Dec. 24, 2004

LED ZEPPELIN's "Stairway to Heaven is the best rock song of all time, according to a survey published today, reports Ireland On-Line.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by QUEEN, "Smoke On The Water" by DEEP PURPLE and "Hotel California" by THE EAGLES all made the top 10.

But the 1971 LED ZEPPELIN classic polled over 70 percent of the vote in the survey by radio station Planet Rock.

The song was never even released as a single but has been covered by everyone from Rolf Harris to Dolly Parton.

"The number one may be seen as a rock clich? but the truth is that it’s probably the only rock song ever written that most fans can agree is a classic," said Planet Rock presenter Mark Jeeves.

"After all these years, there’s still nothing to touch it."

LED ZEPPELIN had two other entries in the top 10 — "Whole Lotta Love" at six and "Rock and Roll" at 8.

"Freebird" by LYNYRD SKYNYRD came second in the list, followed by "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Smoke on the Water" and BLACK SABBATH classic "Paranoid".

"Highway to Hell" by AC/DC and "All Along the Watchtower" by the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE also made the top 10.

The entire top 100 is being counted down on the digital station between 8am and 5pm on Christmas Day.
