Black Sabbath/Blue Oyster Cult DVD

A concert DVD featuring material culled from various performances during Black Sabbath's 1980 trek with the Blue Oyster Cult is reportedly set for a European release on December 22nd, under the moniker "Black & Blue". Black Sabbath songs featured on the effort are said to include 'War Pigs', 'N.I.B.', 'Iron Man', 'Paranoid', 'Die Young', 'Neon Knights' and 'Heaven And Hell'; whilst Blue Oyster Cult's side of the disc is expected to incorporate 'Cities On Flame With Rock & Roll', 'Dr. Music', 'The Marshall Plan', 'Divine Wind', 'Godzilla', 'Born To Be Wild' (Steppenwolf cover) and 'Roadhouse Blues' (The Doors).

BLACK SABBATH With ROB HALFORD: Camden Show To Be Released On DVD, CD - Nov. 5, 2004

An audio CD version of SABBATH's historic performance with Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST) on August 26, 2004 at Ozzfest in Camden, NJ will be released in Japan on November 19 through Dust An' Dreams (www.dnd-rock.com). The DVD version is slated for release in mid-December. A number of still captures from a pro-shot film of the gig can be viewed at http://www.sabbathlive.com/tours/2004/video/040826/page_01.htm.

Ozzy Osbourne was forced to sit out BLACK SABBATH's performance in Camden due to an attack of bronchitis.

Halford had previously joined SABBATH for two gigs to support Ozzy on his last shows for the "No More Tours" tour in November 1992 in Costa Mesa, CA after SABBATH's singer at the time, Ronnie James Dio, refused to take the stage.

TONY IOMMI: New Solo Album 'Fused' Due In July - Apr. 25, 2005

Tony Iommi, the legendary BLACK SABBATH guitarist, will release his new album, "Fused", on July 12, 2005, via Sanctuary Records. This will be Iommi's third solo album.

Joining Iommi on "Fused" is former DEEP PURPLE vocalist/bass guitarist Glenn Hughes and former JOHN MELLENCAMP drummer Kenny Aronoff, who has also played sessions with the likes of THE ROLLING STONES, BOB DYLAN, ROD STEWART, ALICE COOPER, BOB SEGER, LYNYRD SKYNYRD and countless others. The trio will hit the road to promote "Fused" later this year after BLACK SABBATH finishes headlining the 10th anniversary Ozzfest tour.

The 10 songs on "Fused" are as follows:

Iommi has worked with both Hughes and Aronoff in the past. Hughes is a longtime friend who sang on the 1986 BLACK SABBATH Featuring Tony Iommi album "Seventh Star". In 2004, previously unreleased songs they had collaborated on eight years earlier were completed and released by Sanctuary as "The 1996 DEP Sessions". Aronoff played drums on the song "Black Oblivion" on Iommi's self-titled 2000 solo album, which was loaded with all-star guest appearances. "Fused" was produced by Bob Marlette, who also manned the studio boards for Iommi.

"I put some ideas for four or five tracks down about three years ago, but I hadn't written them specifically with Glenn in mind," Iommi says. "After 'The 1996 DEP Sessions' was finished last year, I said to my manager that I should try Glenn on my solo album. Glenn came over to England and we did a trial run writing more material and it was unbelievable. His enthusiasm is amazing. He is so full of energy and great song ideas.”

"The ideal thing for me is to work with collaborators. I can come in with riffs until the cows come home, and I do that all the time. I like to do it that way and then build the song with somebody else."

Iommi and Hughes tend to write quickly when they settle in. Once the basic song ideas were written for this new album, Hughes worked on overall melodies and lyrics. The songs were in place, but a drummer was needed to tie it all together. Iommi was eager to work with Aronoff again and had him in mind from the beginning. The highly respected skins-basher was thrilled about the invitation, especially when Iommi said he wanted to tour to promote "Fused".

"I definitely knew that for my next album I wasn't going to use a lot special guests again. I wanted to use just one singer, and I also wanted it to be more like a band this time. The idea was to go into the studio with Glenn and Kenny play everything live. It was great. I really enjoyed doing it that way," says Iommi. "That was the original way you used to record, and that was the only way I knew how to record for a long time. Only a few years ago did I start recording the other way, by building up and layering tracks. By playing live in the studio, you can hear exactly how the songs are going to sound and whether they work."

These new songs most definitely work, and they rage with the same fire and intensity that mark Iommi's best. There is nothing quite like the sound of a power trio, because there can be no weak links — each musician's efforts stand out. There is no place to hide. Iommi, Hughes and Aronoff feed off each other, whether it's the concise punch of "Dopamine" and "What You're Living For" or the fluid twists and turns in the nine-minute epic "I Go Insane".

Iommi's lethal guitar crunch leads the charge. Hughes truly pushes himself to the edge and adjusts his voice to fit the overall direction of each song while simultaneously propelling the rhythm with his pounding bass guitar. The volcanic thunder Aronoff unleashes from his drums sounds like nothing he has done before. Marlette's sparkling, crisp production results in a hard-hitting, modern, in-your-face sound.

"Bob is a fantastic producer. He also played a few keyboard parts on this album because he wanted to get his hands in there!" laughs Iommi.

Marlette's major role as the producer was to provide that extra, objective pair of ears and determine when a song was finished. He also judged Iommi's solos and usually found what he looking for after four or five takes. However, Iommi often wanted to lay down more solos with the purpose of topping himself with each pass.

"I tend to keep trying solos until I get to where I say, 'Oh yeah, I really like that one.' It's not often I say that, but you're always trying to get that one you're happy with," he says. "Sometimes it is difficult working with a producer when you have been a producer yourself, but it's good to compare ideas. To get the best end result you do whatever it takes."

Iommi's excitement about "Fused" is at a fever pitch and he cannot wait to tour with Hughes and Aronoff.

"In addition to playing material from this album, we'll probably do a couple of tracks from 'The 1996 DEP Sessions' and a few SABBATH songs too," he says.

TONY IOMMI: 'We Owe It To The Fans' To Do A New BLACK SABBATH Album - Apr. 29, 2005

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has spoken to Billboard.com about his upcoming solo album, "Fused", and the possibility of a new SABBATH studio CD.

While hinting that a DVD release from SABBATH's Ozzfest 2005 shows could be in the works, Iommi acknowledges that it's the promise of a new BLACK SABBATH album that continues to keep diehards waiting.

"We've certainly talked about it," Iommi tells Billboard.com. "But to make any definite plans as to when it's going to be is another thing. Again, it's going to come down to time because we're going to have put aside quite a bit of time to get together, rehearse and write another album. [But] I really think we owe it to the fans as well to do the album."

Iommi is planning a fall "Fused" tour with vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE) and drummer Kenny Aronoff (JOHN MELLENCAMP). Both musicians also appear on the album.

"We can draw from that album, we can draw from the 'The 1996 DEP Sessions' and even some 'Seventh Star' stuff," Iommi says. "I think we can even do a couple of SABBATH tunes. We don't really know exactly what we're going to play but I think there is certainly plenty of material."

TONY IOMMI: 'BLACK SABBATH Used To Jam With LED ZEPPELIN All The Time' - May 2, 2005

In a head-to-head Sirius Satellite Radio interview with "Sound of the Beast" author Ian Christe, BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi exclusively reveals this week that he has studio tapes of BLACK SABBATH jamming with LED ZEPPELIN during the mid-1970s.

"BLACK SABBATH used to jam with LED ZEPPELIN all the time." reports the Birmingham-born Iommi. "We'd be trying to rehearse and they'd come interrupt us. I've got some tapes floating around the house." During the exceptional in-depth session Iommi also reveals stories of having John Bonham serve as best man at his raucous first wedding, being chastised by Bill Ward's mom after setting her son on fire, his early days playing Buddy Holly cover songs in the 1960s, receiving a Gibson SG from Leslie West, and the desire to record new BLACK SABBATH material.

The interview airs twice this week (Tuesday, May 3 at 9:00 p.m. EST and Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. EST) on Sirius "Hard Attack"/27's weekly "Bloody Roots" heavy metal history lesson, hosted by Christe. OZZY OSBOURNE - "BLACK SABBATH Won't Make An Album For The Money" [Hot Flashes - 05.05.09 08:31:46]

According to Contactmusic.com, OZZY OSBOURNE has assured cynical critics the newly reformed BLACK SABBATH will steer clear of the recording studio, unless they write a batch of tunes on a par with their rock classics.

The charismatic singer - who is touring with the band this summer (05) - is aware a new disc of "half-assed" Sabbath songs will leave music journalists in no doubt they're only back together to make easy money. However, Osbourne insists if the songwriting skills that launched them to prominence in the 1970s are still there, they may have another album to add to their discography.

He says, "We've grown up, we've all changed. But whether we could make another album together... If we started writing and came up with the next Master Of Reality or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, I'd be a fucking idiot not to put it out. But I will not do a new Sabbath album just because of the name. I don't wanna do something half-assed and have everybody go, 'Oh, they only did it for the money...'"

The earliest-known live recording of Black Sabbath has surfaced, according to the webmaster of a Sabbath fan site. The 62-minute reel-to-reel tape reportedly documents the group's Nov. 16, 1969, performance at a club in Dumfries, Scotland. "I'd never heard a band play with such power or heavy riffs before, and it actually made me start my own band!" says the recording's owner, Alex Wilson.

Black Sabbath - это как-бы "явление антихриста народу" хотя никакими антихристами они не были. :) Был на их концертах раз 13 или 14 (yже не помню). 4 раза с Tony Martin (2 раза в Москве в 1989 и 2 раза в Бостоне в 1994 и 1995 годах), 1 раз с Dio (в 1992 году в Бостоне) и остальные разы с Ozzy. ИМХО лучше звука живьём, чем у Black Sabbath нет ни у кого. Даже близко никто не стоит. Ну а самый удачный концерт, на котором я был - это, конечно, с Dio. Это голосище с гитарой Iommi и с Geezer-овским басом не побьёт никто. Зяка тоже не плохо выступал, и шоу хорошое делал, но по голосу он до Dio не дотягивает.

На вкус и цвет товарищей нет. Мне больше всего Born Again нравится, потом Master of Reality, потом Live Evil, потом Black Sabbath и потом Paranoid, Vol. 4 и так далее. Headless Cross и Forbidden тоже отличные.

Я тут прочитал старые заметки по этой теме. Кто-то Black Sabbath с Алисом Купером сравнивает? Совсем уже крыша съехала? Может еще Баха с Раймондом Паулсом сравним? Black Sabbath - это мрачная, тяжелая, серьезная музыка часто с серьёзными словами. А тут какой-то poser с театральным шокирающим horror-show - чистая развлекаловка. Ну это ессно мое мнение....
