Roy Orbison: In Dreams - The Roy Orbison Story (Music Documentary)Roy Orbison: In Dreams - The Roy Orbison Story (Music Documentary)
Due for release on 03/04/2006

Review
The man. His music. His life.
The ultimate exclusive music documentary of the life of Roy Orbison. It provides in-depth insights into his legendary career with classic performances, personal home movies and photos, location footage and interviews with the great and humble people he touched with music. Famous artists such as Barry Gibb, Robert Plant, Bono, Dwight Yoakam, Raul Malo, K.D. Lang, Robin Gibb and many others provide revealing aspects of his bittersweet life, his incomparable work and his unique genius.
Orbison's remarkable canon of work is tied to the entire life span of rock'n'roll. He scored a string of hits in the '60s and toured with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. But his success was marred by the personal tragedies of the deaths of his wife and two sons. In the '70s he was reduced to playing at clubs until his reputation began to soar. Finally, through the renaissance in the '80s with The Travelling Wilburys, his star shone brightly until his untimely death in 1988.
Includes the classic tracks 'Only The Lonely', 'Singing The Blues', 'Ooby Dooby', 'Rockhouse', 'Claudette', 'Running Scared', 'Crying', 'A Memory That Walks', 'Dream Baby', 'Pretty Woman', 'Mean Angel', 'It's Over', 'Working For The man', 'Blue Bayou', 'That Loving Feelin', 'Wild Hearts Run Out Of Time', 'In Dreams', 'She's A Mystery To Me' and 'You've Got It'.

Legacy plans ambitious Orbison reissue series
Fri Feb 17

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Sony BMG's Legacy Recordings label is embarking on a two-year campaign to release virtually everything Roy Orbison ever recorded. At the same time, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will curate a special exhibit with the help of the rock 'n' roll icon's family.

Legacy's campaign got under way with the February 7 reissue of "Black & White Night," a 1987 star-studded concert that originally aired as an HBO/Cinemax special. Orbison was backed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and k.d. lang, among others, at the show, which took place the year before he died at 52.

Quick on its heels will be the March 28 release of the career-spanning, two-disc compilation "The Essential Roy Orbison." The collection will pull together 40 tracks that originally appeared on Sun, Monument, Virgin, MGM, Warner Bros., Mercury and Def Jam labels, reaching back as far as 1956.

Among the highlights are the early rockabilly cuts "Ooby Dooby" and "Rock House" and such classics as "Blue Bayou," "Only the Lonely," "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "Crying."

This year alone, Legacy will reissue Orbison's entire Sun and Monument catalogs. Titles from the Jewel, MGM and Virgin catalogs will follow. Plans include a remastered version of Orbison's final studio album, 1989's "Mystery Girl" and a DualDisc edition the 1992 Virgin set "King Of Hearts," both originally released by Virgin. The latter posthumous album utilized Orbison's final vocal recordings and was highlighted by a duet with lang on "Crying" that won a Grammy for best country vocal collaboration.

On April 18, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland will open its Orbison exhibit, which will focus on the artist's career and his contribution to the American songbook. Orbison's family has loaned such artifacts as handwritten lyrics, rare records, stage clothing, business documents and photographs to the gallery display. Orbison was inducted into the Rock Hall in 1987.

Supported by his widow, Barbara Orbison, a movement to commemorate the artist with an official U.S. postage stamp has taken off in recent weeks thanks to a bevy of media reports. An online petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/royvote/petition.html) has logged nearly 12,000 signatures.

New exhibit at Rock Hall looks at life of early rocker
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
John Soeder
Plain Dealer Pop Music Critic
Think Roy Orbison, and you think - model airplanes?

Actually, the rock 'n' roll icon was an avid builder of miniature aircraft. A model plane from his collection is part of "Haunting & Yearning: The Life and Music of Roy Orbison," a new exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

Orbison "was incredibly skilled with his hands," said his widow, Barbara Orbison, who worked with the Rock Hall to put together the retrospective. She'll attend a private reception at the museum tonight.

The exhibit opens to the publice Wednesday. It will be on view at least through the end of the year.

"Roy was a great model builder and a great painter," Barbara said by phone last week from the Nashville, Tenn. offices of Orbison Records.

"He would say, It's my therapy.' He was a student of history, too."

Orbison died of a heart attack in 1988, at the age of 52, two days after a concert at the old Front Row Theater in Highland Heights. The guitar-playing singer-songwriter had been inducted into the Rock Hall one year earlier.

Among the other artifacts on display at the museum:

A copy of Orbison's yearbook from Wink High School in Wink, Texas.

An acetate recording of his first Sun Records single, the 1956 rockabilly hit "Ooby Dooby."

Orbison's annotated lyrics to "She's a Mystery to Me," the ethereal ballad (penned by U2's Bono and the Edge) from which Orbison's final studio album, 1989's "Mystery Girl," took its title.

The Rock Hall also has a pair of Orbison's trademark sunglasses and one of his flashy jumpsuits.

"It's great to see the jumpsuit because everybody thinks Roy was always in black, but he wasn't always in black," Barbara said.

The exhibit coincides with an extensive CD reissue campaign spanning Orbison's discography.

He recorded more than 20 Top 40 hits, mostly in the 1960s, including the chart-topping "Oh, Pretty Woman." Orbison joined forces with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty and the Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne to form the Traveling Wilburys in the 1980s.

Orbison has been chosen as the honoree for the Rock Hall's 11th annual American Music Masters series. The weeklong salute in early November will include an academic symposium at Case Western Reserve University and an all-star tribute concert.

In the meantime, the exhibit affords "a really personal look" at Orbison, Barbara said.

"Roy had a full life," she said. "He had a dream. And even if you come from a small town, like Roy did, he showed you can make your dreams come true

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to Open Roy Orbison Exhibit
Monday April 17, 3:45 pm ET

CLEVELAND, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy Orbison was one of the true pioneers of rock and roll and one of the all-time greatest singers to ever record rock, pop or country music. In celebration of his legacy, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will be opening an exhibit that highlights different aspects of his career and personal life on April 18. Orbison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060130/LEGACYLOGO )

The exhibit coincides with the release of Legacy Records Roy Orbison Reissue Project. The first Legacy release will be Black & White Night, the 1987 star-studded concert originally aired as an HBO-Cinemax special, and the long-awaited The Essential Roy Orbison, the first-ever "best of" collection spanning Orbison's entire career. Black & White Night is currently in stores.

"Roy Orbison secured his place in modern music history with a unique blend of rock, country and pop music that defies easy description," said Howard Kramer, director of curatorial affairs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "His one-of-a-kind voice and ethereal songs set him apart from all of his contemporaries and made for a diverse set of followers." Orbison influenced a broad range of contemporaries, like Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers; rock superstars like Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon; as well more current performers such as k.d. lang and Chris Isaak.

The exhibit includes handwritten lyrics and setlists, production notes, handbills, clothing, rare records and more. Highlights are:

* Handwritten lyrics to "Careless Heart," "Windsurfer," "She's a
Mystery to Me"

* Production notes from Mystery Girl

* Rare Rockabilly Spectator tour program, 1958. The tour also
featuring Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and many others.

* Jumpsuits and pantsuits from the 1970s.

* Rare records including the original acetate from "Ooby Dooby"
and the highly coveted Sun Records promo EP.

About Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison possessed one of the great rock and roll voices: a forceful, operatic bel canto tenor capable of dynamic crescendos. He sang heartbroken ballads and bluesy rockers alike, running up a formidable hit streak in the early Sixties. From the release of "Only the Lonely" in 1960 to "Oh! Pretty Woman," a span of four years, Orbison cracked the Top Ten nine times. Orbison's most memorable performances were lovelorn melodramas, such as "Crying" and 'It's Over,'" in which he emoted in a brooding, tremulous voice. The melancholy in his songs resonated with listeners of all ages, but especially heartsick teenagers who knew how it felt to lose in love.

About the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum:

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a nonprofit museum dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the historical significance of modern music, will honor the legacy of Roy Orbison with an exhibit opening in April. The gallery will feature an intimate display of artifacts directly from the Roy Orbison archives. Handwritten lyrics, rare records, stage clothing, business documents and photographs will illustrate the life and work of one of the most enigmatic performers in rock and roll history.

The Museum is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Wednesdays the Museum is open until 9:00 p.m. Museum admission is $20.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors (60+), $11 for children (9-12) and children under 8 and Museum members are free.

Я думаю, что вышеупомянутые треки очень хорошо заменили бы Legend In My Time и 22 Days, который уже выходили пластинке Lonely & Blue. Вот интересная пластиночка.
