Ждем АНТОЛОГИЮ!!!

---

As reported here in April 2006, a career-spanning Eric Clapton Video Anthology is in development. At that time, fans were asked to search their personal archives for rare video and photographs of Eric prior to 1980. The fan response was overwhelming. However, the search continues for rare material of Eric both on and off stage.

The producers are now seeking video and photographs of Eric exclusively from the following periods:
- Yardbirds (particularly rare film footage)
- John Mayalls' Bluesbreakers
- Cream
- Derek & The Dominos
- Eric offstage in the early 1970s

If you have photos, film, video, super-8 or other visual media in the above categories, you can contact the producers directly at ec_anthology@yahoo.com.

Eric Clapton's World Tour stopped in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night, 3 March. It was the third and final stop in Texas for this tour. Many of the songs performed at the SBC Center were drawn from Eric's timeless album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. They included "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad," "Little Wing" and the title track, "Layla." Eric's blues roots were acknowledge through songs like "Driftin'," "Little Queen of Spades" and "Further On Up The Road."

Jimmie Vaughan joined Eric and his band for the encore numbers, "Cocaine" and "Crossroads." Robert Cray, who's band is supporting Eric on this tour, also stepped on stage for the final song.

Having been on the road since 6 May 2006, Eric and his band are in fine form. One fan in attendance told Where's Eric!, "Combine the amazing songs with his new band, and of course the genius that is known as Eric Clapton, and you have one unbelievable show!"

The full set list was:

01. Tell The Truth
02. Key To The Highway
03. Got To Get Better In A Little While
04. Little Wing
05. Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad

Sit Down Set
06. Driftin'
07. Outside Woman Blues
08. Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out
09. Running On Faith

10. Motherless Children
11. Little Queen Of Spades
12. Further On Up The Road
13. Wonderful Tonight
14. Layla

Encore
15. Cocaine (with special guest Jimmie Vaughan)
16. Crossroads (with special guests Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray)

For those who have not been checking in regularly with Where's Eric! for updates from the world tour, Eric's band features some familiar faces from years past and some new additions. Bandmembers are Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Derek Trucks (guitar), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Tim Carmon (keyboards), Willie Weeks (bass), Steve Jordan (drums), Michelle John (backing vocals), and Sharon White (backing vocals).

Derek Trucks recently announced his departure from Eric's band on his website, derektrucks.com. Derek said he "will continue to tour with Eric Clapton for the next US leg of the tour starting on February 28, and continue for all dates through March 18 but unfortunately not the last three weeks of the tour due to scheduling conflicts." After that date he'll be back on the road with the Allman Brothers Band.

Next on the schedule for Eric are dates in Oklahoma City, Denver, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. The tour wraps 6 April in Columbus, Ohio at the Schotenstein Center.

Express-News

Saturday night at the AT&T Center was a double header. It was baby boomer night out and guitar mania.

Eric Clapton and a monster band took over the big room. In front of a crowd of more that 13,000, many of whom likely started listening to Clapton when he was but a kid, they turned in a compact, punchy, two-hour set that showcased songs from various parts of Clapton's career.

But first, let's jump to the end when five, count ‘em, five guitarists, Clapton and his two guitar slingers, Doyle Bramhall II and Derek Trucks, joined forces with opener Robert Cray and surprise guest Jimmie Vaughan to finish the evening with an extended version of “Crossroads.” Everyone took solos and Cray and Clapton swapped vocal duties. Nobody blew a note and the players had as much fun as the crowd.

The ensuing standing ovation was well-earned. But Clapton and company, nine strong, did plenty to earn accolades. From the opener, “Tell the Truth,” through a mid-set, four-song, sit-down segment that featured Clapton playing acoustic guitar, through the encore, J.J. Cale's “Cocaine” (with Vaughan) and “Crossroads,” Clapton proved his mettle as a player, a singer and a bandleader.

Clapton had plenty of chances to shine, and gave everyone in the band plenty of chances to shine. And shine they did on “Key to the Highway,” “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad,” “Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out,” “Little Queen of Spades,” “Wonderful Tonight,” “ Layla ,” and others.

The young guitarists, Trucks and Bramhall, meshed seamlessly with Clapton. Trucks mainly worked out on slide guitar, Bramhall on hot Fender Stratocaster licks and vocal duets with the leader. On “Motherless Children,” the guitarists set up a mighty roar with a three-slide guitar attack.

And no one else in the band was a slouch. The rhythm section of Steve Jordan (drums) and Willie Weeks (bass) was double tough. Keyboard power was supplied by Chris Stainton and Tim Carmon . Backing vocals from Michelle John and Sharon White spiced the blues and the ballads.

The Robert Cray band opened with a hot and cool six song soul/blues set that featured older songs such as “Phone Booth” and “Bad Influence” as well as newer numbers including “20.” It was the perfect way to kick off the show.

Clapton's guitar does the talking in Salt Lake

Eric Clapton is, apparently, a man of few words.

Put a guitar in his hands, however, and the man speaks volumes.

That much was clear during the legendary guitarist's concert Thursday night at EnergySolutions Arena. During the span of his just-shy-of-two-hours performance, Clapton spoke a grand total of 13 words to the audience.

Yes, I counted.

There was one, "Thank you and good evening" and four "thank yous."

Clapton's guitar notes, however, must have numbered in the several thousands. And they all seemed to say something -- with nary a one out of place.

He may be "Slowhand," but his fingers are extremely fast.

It's been nearly six years since Clapton's last Wasatch Front appearance -- and Thursday's concert couldn't have seemed more different than his previous Utah show, which occurred on Aug. 1, 2001. Clapton actually seemed a bit more animated this time around -- although, truth be told, that may just be splitting hairs. At this stage of his career, Clapton is not going to suddenly start playing up to the audience.

Nor does he need to. Not when you can play guitar like he does.

Clapton's setlist also was drastically different this time around -- providing a major focus on material from his days in Derek and the Dominos. He played no fewer than seven songs from that era of his career, and threw in a couple Cream songs to boot.

The concert's opening five songs were all Derek and the Dominos material, highlighted by a smoking rendition of "Little Wing," originally done by Jimi Hendrix.

"Little Wing" set the stage for what would be a common approach all night as Clapton swapped lead solo breaks with his two backup guitarists -- Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II. It almost seems a disservice to refer to those two as backup musicians as Clapton, dressed casually in a black shirt and blue jeans, gracefully allowed each many turns in the spotlight.

Trucks's slide guitar playing proved especially mesmerizing throughout the concert. Watching Trucks, who juggles his time by fronting his own band as well as performing with the Allman Brothers, it was easy to see why Clapton tabbed him for this tour.

For that matter, all of Clapton's band were fabulous musicians, and each was allowed a solo turn. Those members include Chris Stainton (keyboards), Willie Weeks (bass), Steve Jordan (drums), Tim Carmon (keyboards) and backing vocalists Michelle John and Sharon White.

The sole purpose of many songs Thursday seemed merely to provide an excuse for excessive jamming. "Little Queen of Spades," as one example featured solos by Stainton, Bramhall, Clapton and Trucks. "Key to the Highway," "Got to Get Better in a Little While" and "Future on up the Road" all offered lengthy solo meanderings.

A four-song sit-down set midway through the show, broke things up nicely, with Clapton showing his prowess on acoustic guitar.

Clapton saved a few of his hits for last, closing the main set with "Wonderful Tonight" and "Layla," which still features one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. The encore included "Cocaine" and "Crossroads," giving the evening an electrifying finish.

Clapton and his band, as one, took a few closing bows before leaving the stage without a word.

As it turns out, their playing said it all.
