LONDON - One of the most anticipated, yet briefest reunions in rock music history came to a triumphant close Friday night at the storied Royal Albert Hall as Cream capped a four-night stand at the very venue where they played their last public concert nearly 40 years ago.

The band, with guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker, had a career that was fleeting but influential, selling more than 35 million albums. It played 200 shows during a 27-month period before splitting up acrimoniously amid a blur of chemical-fueled and ego-laden unsettledness.

While renowned among critics as the first power trio, Cream's unique fusing of blues and psychedelic rock idioms made a major impact on the rock world. Although Clapton, now 60, gained the lion's share of the publicity - especially during his solo career post-Cream - it was Bruce who was Cream's principal voice and primary songwriter. Bruce and Baker never reached the heights they had enjoyed with Cream following the band's dissolution, but Bruce, who will turn 62 on Saturday, did go on to record a number of critically acclaimed albums as he blazed trails in the jazz and rock genres, as did Baker, 65, who dabbled in producing while pursuing his love of polo.

Bruce and Baker were constantly at loggerheads during the band's heyday, with Clapton often caught in the middle - even when the band headlined tours in the United States, where it received $60,000-per-show paydays - unthinkable sums in 1968. Despite rumors of potential reunions, the band remained a part of history - minus a three-song set they played in 1993 when they were inaugurated into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

This January, the unthinkable happened as the trio announced that it would play four shows at the 5,000-seat Albert Hall. Tickets sold out in less than 30 minutes and attracted eager fans from around the world. Some paid as much as $4,000 Friday night to be a part of history and see the final reunion show from rock's first true super group, which had presumably said "goodbye" via two farewell concerts at the Albert Hall on Nov. 26, 1968.

After three well-received shows earlier in the week, they took the stage unannounced Friday night and received a thundering reception even before playing a note. Despite the occasion, the band remained workmanlike throughout and was not caught up in the nostalgia as it ran through a two-hour, 19-song set. The crowd was simply mesmerized by the proceedings and rewarded the trio with standing ovations after nearly every song.

The band has repeatedly said it will not tour.

Minus the opener of "I'm So Glad," Bruce's voice was in fine form, but he was especially impressive on "N.S.U.," "Deserted Cities of the Heart" and the tongue-in-cheek "Politician." Baker was solid the entire evening and pulled out his loopy, LSD-influenced narrative "Pressed Rat and Warthog" and amused himself throughout by tossing drumsticks into the crowd. The band played the same set at each show.

Bruce and Clapton proved a veritable vocal tag team on a psychedelia-laden "Sweet Wine" and a stinging "White Room." Clapton - who made his mark during short stints with the Yardbirds and John Mayall's Blues Breakers before helping form the trio - sadly did not use any wah-wah effects, a trademark of Cream's sound. He stumbled a bit on "Outside Women Blues," but regained his lyrical timing on "Badge," an FM-radio staple co-written with late George Harrison.

Never straying far from their roots, Cream's rambunctious forays into well-traveled blues territories proved as relevant Friday as back when the band was the toast of the rock world. Long staples of its set lists and central to its studio work that produced only three albums - a handful of releases, including two live offerings, came out after the band called it quits - Cream's take on blues standards such as Willie Dixon's "Spoonful," Chester Burnett's "Sitting on Top of The World" and Muddy Water's "Rolling and Tumblin'" were spot on, especially with Bruce eschewing his bass for a harmonica on "Rolling and Tumblin'," and Clapton's incendiary guitar workout on Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" was stunning.

After a plodding "Sitting on Top of The World," the band raised the intensity during "White Room" and a large section of fans massed in front of the stage. They remained there until the exhausted trio left for good after Baker's 12-minute workout during "Toad" and a quick encore of "Sunshine of Your Love."

Proving that marketing is alive and well, a DVD compiling the four-night run is scheduled to be released this fall.

Спасибо за ссылку, а все таки когда и в сессии для каких альбомов были записаны эти песни? - понятно, что в семидесятые. Из изданного ранее там только четыре трека из 74, 75,76 и 78. А сборник, кстати, отличный.

Сегодня прослушал полный концерт возрожденных КРИМ...

Все очень хорошо, без свойственного им ранним ПСИХОПАД... извините ПСИХОДЕЛИИ ;))))
Интересно звучит дуэт Клэптона и Брюса, прям как старые записи, тоже сочетание голосов...
Порадовала Badge, которую люблю только в студийном варианте и здесь аранжировка первой половины именно такая.
Лично для меня, любимый номер - Stormy Monday! Как обычно у Эрика, классический блюз, значит - СУПЕР!
Приятно удивил Бейкер - никакого вольнодумства и перетягивания одеяла на себя...
Эрик играет интересно, здесь пропала заштампованность, которой он славился в последние годы.
Единственное что вызвало скуку, это Rollin' & Tumblin', тк Брюс играет на губной гармошке, а не на басу... Не надо ему на ней играть, не звучит она у него...Как-будто школьник дует...

Вобщем впечатления скорее приятные, чем наоборот...
Наверно правильно написали газеты, это лучшее ВОЗРОЖДЕНИЕ за последние годы...
