1940--Joey Dee (of the Starlighters, whose big hit was Peppermint Twist) is born in Passaic, New Jersey.

1961--The Beatles perform at the Top Ten Club, Reeperbahn, Hamburg, West Germany.

1962--The Beatles perform at the Cavern Club at lunchtime and then again at night.

1964--Ringo Starr leaves the hospital in England and makes plans to join the other Beatles who are in Australia on a world tour.

1965--Paul returns from holiday in Portugal, at Brian’s request, to attend the next day’s press conference

1966-- Brian receives the article published in the ‘Palladium’ of Richmond, Indiana

1968--Studio 2. 6.30pm-12.15am. Recording: ‘Blackbird’ (takes 1-32). Mono mixing: ‘Blackbird’ (remixes 1-6, from take 32). Studio 3. 7.00-10.15pm. Recording: ‘Revolution 9′ (unnumbered takes of sound effects). Producer: George Martin; Engineer: Geoff Emerick; 2nd Engineer: Phil McDonald.
1968--Visit at the studio: Francie Schwarts. While recording ‘Blackbird’, Paul is filmed for a BBC Australia video.

1969--‘The Ballad Of John And Yoko’ number 1 (UK Record Retailer chart).

1970--John and Yoko announce they will continue their vacations in the state of California for some time.

1963 – The Beatles perform at the Grafton Rooms, Liverpool, in a special concert to aid a children’s charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The Beatles accepted no fee for their appearance.

Acts managed by Brian occupy places 1, 2 and 3 of the New Musical Express chart.

Charity performance at the Grafton Ballroom, Liverpool.

1964
Arrival in Australia. 300,000 people welcome them on Adelaida’s streets.
Ringo, with Brian, flies to Australia. Concert at the Centennial Hall, Adelaida, Australia. Jimmy Nicol on drums. Taped for ‘Beatles Show’, Australian radio programme.

1965
A spokesman of the British government announces the Beatles have been named to the MBE.
‘Daily Mirror’ headline: ‘Beatles, MBE!’.
Morning: Beatles parents receive flowers sent by Brian.
Morning: Brian is interviewed on BBC’s Light Programme ‘Late Night Extra’ by telephone from his Blackpool hotel room.
Later, Brian flies from Blackpool to London and then drives to Weybridge to collect John, who is very late for the press conference.
Lunchtime: press conference at Twickenham Film Studios. Brian attends. Paul affirms that MBE must stand for ‘Mister Brian Epstein’.

1968
Recording session cancelled due to George and Ringo’s abscenses.

1972
US LP release: ‘Some Time In New York City’.

Westwood One radio broadcasts ‘Oobu Joobu’ Part 5.

1960--The Silver Beetles perform at the Jacaranda Coffee Bar, Liverpool. Tommy Moore makes his final appearance as the group's drummer.

1961--The Beatles perform at the Top Ten Club, Reeperbahn, Hamburg, West Germany.

1962--The Beatles perform at the Cavern Club at lunchtime and then again at night.

1963--The Beatles perform at two venues on the same night. They perform first at the Palace Theatre Club in Offerton, Stockport, Cheshire. Then they travel ten miles to the Southern Sporting Club, Manchester, Lancashire.

1964--The Beatles perform two more shows at Centennial Hall, Adelaide, Australia. For the four shows that The Beatles performed in Adelaide there were 12,000 tickets, for which 50,000 requests had been placed. The two shows on this day are drummer Jimmy Nicol's last as a "temporary Beatle." Ringo Starr will meet The Beatles in Melbourne the next day and perform with them right away. Jimmy Nicol's brief stint as a member of the world's most popular musical group is over.

1968--Paul McCartney is filmed in EMI Studios performing Blackbird for a short film being assembled to promote Apple Records.

1970--The Beatles' LP, Let It Be, reaches #1 in the US album charts.

1970--The Beatles' single, The Long and Winding Road, reaches #1 in the US charts.

1974--Following a concert by The Who at Madison Square Garden, John Lennon and May Pang are visited at their Pierre Hotel suite by Keith Moon, Moon’s assistant, Dougal Butler, and Melody Maker American Editor, Chris Charlesworth. All John has to offer as refreshment is a bottle of extremely expensive red wine, a gift from Allen Klein.
1977--US release of The Beatles’ double LP, The Beatles Live! At the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962 (Lingasong).Recorded live in Hamburg on December 31, 1962. Highest position in Billboard charts: #111

The Beatles give a five-Beatle press conference, with temporary drummer, Jimmy Nicol, sharing the spotlight for the last time with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and the now-recuperated Ringo. Nicol's job of filling in for Ringo until he was well enough to join The Beatles on tour is done, and he departs for England.

1965--US release of The Beatles’ LP, Beatles VI (Capitol). Songs: Kansas City, Eight Days a Week, You Like Me Too Much, Bad Boy, I Don't Want to Spoil the Party, Words of Love, What You're Doing, Yes It Is, Dizzy Miss Lizzie, Tell Me What You See, and Every Little Thing. 41 weeks on Billboard chart; highest position #1.

1965--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). Recording I've Just Seen a Face (six takes) and I'm Down (seven takes).

1966--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). Recording Here, There and Everywhere. Getting down the basic track and initial vocal overdubs.

1967--The Beatles in the recording studio (Olympic Sound Studios, London). Recording a rhythm track for the song they will perform for the “Our World” worldwide satellite-linked television broadcast, All You Need Is Love. The Beatles record 33 takes of the basic track and some vocals

1969--The Beatles' single, Get Back, is #1 in the US charts for the fourth straight week.

1971--The first Hard Rock Cafe opens in London.

1976--Six years after their breakup, The Beatles garner yet another gold album with their Rock 'n' Roll Music LP.

1996--Beatles producer, George Martin, is awarded a knighthood

1941--Harry Nilsson is born Harry Edward Nelson III in Brooklyn, New York. As a songwriter, he wrote Three Dog Night’s One (1969). he is sometimes best remembered as John Lennon’s drinking buddy during Lennon’s “Lost Weekend” in the mid-1970s.

1956--John Lennon first meets Paul McCartney at a church fete in Liverpool, England. A few days later, Lennon invites McCartney to join his group, The Quarry Men.

1958--Julia Lennon, John’s mother, dies. She is hit by an off-duty police driver on her way home from her sister (and John's aunt) Mimi’s house.

1961--The Beatles perform at the Top Ten Club, Reeperbahn, Hamburg, West Germany.

1962--The Beatles perform at the Cavern Club at lunchtime and then again at night.

1963--The Beatles perform at City Hall, Salisbury, Wiltshire. The Beatles' fee is £300. Prior to the show, Brian Epstein, concerned for The Beatles' safety at this venue, offered the promoter £200 to cancel the booking, but his offer was rejected. The Beatles play to a packed crowd of 1,500.

1964--The Beatles, in Australia on their first world tour, perform two shows at Festival Hall, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (with Ringo Starr back on drums).

1964--US Beatles LP release: Souvenir of Their American Visit.

1964--Paul McCartney proteges, Peter and Gordon (World Without Love), land in the US to begin their first American tour.

1968--Revealing their new-found love to the public, John Lennon and Yoko Ono participate in the National Sculpture Exhibition at Coventry Cathedral.

1968--At a press conference in New York City, John Lennon and Paul McCartney announce that their involvement with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a “mistake.”

1969--The Ballad of John and Yoko reaches No. 1 on the charts.

1981--UK release of the John Lennon LP box set, John Lennon Boxed Set (Parlophone). 1963--The Beatles perform at the Odeon Cinema in Romford, Essex. This is the final "Mersey Beat Showcase." As it turns out, the show's three main acts, (The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas) hold the top three positions in the weekly British singles charts.
1964--The Beatles, in Australia on their first world tour, perform two shows at Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia.

1965--The Beatles go to Twickenham Film Studios for additional overdubbing of dialogue for the movie, "Help!" This will be The Beatles final contribution to the film.

1966--The Beatles make a surprise live appearance on the UK television program, "Top of the Pops." They lip-sync to their latest hits, Paperback Writer and Rain. The appearance is a real coup for "Top of the Pops," and it will turn out to be The Beatles' last live musical television appearance, with the sole exception of the June 1967 world-wide "Our World" transmission of All You Need Is Love.

1966--After a live television appearance ("Top of the Pops"), The Beatles go into the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London) to work on Here, There and Everywhere.

1967--The Beatles appear on the cover of Life, while Time magazine profiles their producer, George Martin, praising his latest work on their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

1977--”Beatlemania,” a stage show based on Lennon-McCartney songs and starring four Beatle look-alikes, opens on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theater. It runs for 1,006 performances before moving to two other venues.

1963--In Studio 5 of the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in London, The Beatles record the fourth "Pop Go the Beatles" radio program. This will be the last of the series, but it will be subsequently extended. The Beatles perform the songs I Saw Her Standing There, Anna, Boys, Chains, P.S. I Love You, and Twist and Shout. The program is broadcast on June 25, and the featured guests are The Bachelors.

1963--The Beatles are photographed by Dezo Hoffman during a London recording session for a "Pop Goes the Beatles" radio program, while dining at a restaurant, and in Delaware Road doing a little clowning around to celebrate Paul McCartney's 21st birthday on the following day.

1964--The Beatles, in Australia on their first world tour, perform two shows at Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia. The second show is filmed for an hour-long television program, "The Beatles Sing for Shell," which is broadcast on July 1. (Shell Petroleum was the program sponsor).

1965--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). The song Yesterday is completed with the overdubbing of an additional vocal track by Paul McCartney and of the string quartet brought in to augment the track. Needing a song for Ringo Starr to sing to replace the failed If You've Got Trouble, The Beatles select Act Naturally for Ringo's vocal contribution on the Help! album. They record 13 instrumental track takes of Act Naturally, and Ringo's vocal (along with Paul's backing vocal) is overdubbed onto the 13th take. Then The Beatles record the song Wait, in four takes. Wait will not be included on the Help! album; it is included on the following LP, Rubber Soul.

1966--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). Recording final overdubs for Here, There and Everywhere and Got to Get You Into My Life.

1966--Paul McCartney buys a farm in Kintyre, Scotland.

1974--At the Record Plant in New York, John Lennon starts the recording sessions for Wall and Bridges. Joining him are musicians Jesse Ed Davis, Kenny Ascher, Nicky Hopkins, Eddie Mottan, and Arthur Jenkins. Work begins on Whatever Gets You Through The Night, (with Elton John on organ, piano and harmony vocals), Beef Jerky, and Bless You. Later that night, Ringo Starr phones John at his hotel, asking him to write a new song for his next album. John obliges by writing (and making a demo recording of) Goodnight Vienna.

1986--Members of Elephant's Memory sue Yoko Ono and the Lennon estate for $104 million.

1989--Ringo Starr announces that he will tour again under the guise of "Ringo and the All-Starr Band." Members of the band will include Clarence Clemons, Joe Walsh, Billy Preston, and Nils Lofgren.

On The Beatles' second night of performances in Melbourne, Australia, they gave two concerts at the city's Festival Hall.
Their repertoire during this part of the world tour consisted of 10 songs: I Saw Her Standing There, I Want To Hold Your Hand, You Can't Do That, All My Loving, She Loves You, Till There Was You, Roll Over Beethoven, Can't Buy Me Love, This Boy and Long Tall Sally.

1942--James Paul McCartney is born at Walton Hospital, Liverpool, England. His parents are then living in Anfield.

1960--The Silver Beetles perform at the Grosvenor Ballroom, Liscard, Wallasey. It is Paul McCartney's 18th birthday.

1961--The Beatles perform at the Top Ten Club, Reeperbahn, Hamburg, West Germany.

1963--The Beatles drive back to Huyton, Liverpool, for Paul McCartney's 21st birthday celebration, held at the house of Paul's Auntie Gin. John Lennon, who had become quite drunk, becomes enraged when Bob Wooler hints that John and Brian Epstein may have had a homosexual affair during their vacation to Spain. Lennon gives Wooler a severe beating (taking a shovel to him in the garden). Wooler later sued Lennon over the highly-publicized incident, but he dropped the suit when John apologized and paid him damages of £200.

1964--The Beatles perform two shows at Sydney Stadium, Rushcutter's Bay, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

1965--The Beatles tape an interview for the Italian radio program "London Ultima Oro." About to begin a European tour, the band is due to perform in Italy in just a few days.

1967--The Beatles' company Apple Music Ltd. is officially formed.

1967--At the Monterey Pop Festival, after an argument between Jimi Hendrix and The Who over who's going to close the festival, Hendrix plays an incendiary set in which he sets his guitar on fire.

1968--"In His Own Write," a play based upon John Lennon's two books ("In His Own Write" and "A Spaniard in the Works"), originally titled “Scene Three, Act One,” opens at London's Old Vic Theatre

1985--John Lennon's posthumous single, Nobody Told Me, receives a BMI award.

1996--John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1972 Chrysler station wagon, in which they drove across the US in late May

1972, is auctioned at Sotheby's for $20,700 ($4,300 more than the pre-auction estimate).

1967--Paul McCartney is interviewed by an ITN reporter about his statement printed in Life magazine that he had taken LSD (the first Beatle to admit to this publicly).

1967--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Three, EMI Studios, London). Work continues on All You Need is Love, with the overdubbing of lead and backing vocals, drums, piano, and banjo.

1970--UK LP release: Delaney And Bonnie On Tour. George Harrison played with the band on some of the album’s recordings.

1976--Paul McCartney's single, Silly Love Songs, reaches #1 in the UK charts.

1980--Donna Summer becomes the first act to sign with Geffen Records, the new label started by David Geffen. Later in the year, Geffen will be the lucky one to sign John Lennon for his last LP, Double Fantasy, by approaching Yoko Ono, not John.

1986--George Harrison attends a rally held at Trafalgar Square in London, protesting the deployment of nuclear weapons.

1992--Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

1998--Sean Lennon makes his debut on CBS-TV’s “Late Show With David Letterman,” from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City.
