Выступление Джона Леннона и его новой группы Plastic Ono Band на фестивале в Торонто,Канада
Trip of the Plastic Ono Band to Toronto.

Rock and Roll Festival at the Varsity Stadium, Toronto. Filmed.

John Lennon woke up regretting having agreed to perform at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival that evening. Eric Clapton, however, was eager to play, and convinced Lennon that it was too late to back out.

Lennon was just in time to catch the flight to Canada. On the aeroplane the hastily-assembled Plastic Ono Band, hitherto a conceptual group with no members, rehearsed some rock 'n' roll standards. Clapton was on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, and session musician Alan White on drums.

The Toronto Rock and Roll Revival was a one-day festival lasting 12 hours, at the Varsity Stadium of Toronto University. The 20,000 ticket holders were unaware that Lennon, Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band were to perform until the festival was underway.

The festival was headlined by The Doors, and also featured Bo Diddley, Chicago Transit Authority, Tony Joe White, Alice Cooper, Jerry-Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys, Gene Vincent, Junior Walker & The All-Stars, Little Richard, Doug Kershaw, Screaming Lord Sutch, Nucleus, Milkwood, Tony Joe White, and Whiskey Howl.

Alice Cooper's group was the backing band for Gene Vincent, while local act Nucleus provided support for Chuck Berry. The Doors closed the festival.

At approximately 10pm the Plastic Ono Band's black limousine arrived in the backstage area, while Cat Mother was onstage. The group was accompanied by festival promotor John Brower, and the car was escorted by 80 motorcycles from the Toronto Vagabonds.

As they arrived photographers scrambled to get a glimpse of the car. Police escorted the Lennons towards the musicians' dressing room, where they remained until midnight.

He led the group through six songs: Blue Suede Shoes, Money (That's What I Want), Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Yer Blues, Cold Turkey and Give Peace A Chance.

Выступление Джона Леннона и его новой группы Plastic Ono Band на фестивале в Торонто,Канада

13 September 1969, Varsity Stadium, University of Toronto
‘The concert debut of the Plastic Ono Band - proof, if any were still needed, that the good old Beatles days had changed for ever.
The event was a rock and roll revival concert, promoted by local company Brower Walker, for which Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Bo Diddly and Gene Vincent had been booked, along with more modern acts The Doors, Chicago and Alice Cooper. John didn’t figure in the original plans, and it was only when inadequate ticket sales were on the verge of causing embarrassment and financial loss that co-promoter John Brower called John in London and asked for his participation. He didn’t ask for a performance, just for John to come over and compere the event, but John said that if he’d come over at all, it would be to play. And he wasn’t thinking Beatles here - those days were over and he had already announced to the others his intentions for a “divorce”, an announcement kept publicly silent because of delicate contractual negotiations between Allen Klein and EMI/Capitol.
Instead, John rounded up a suitable Plastic Ono Band: in this occasion himself (rhythm guitar), Yoko (voice), Eric Clapton (lead guitar), Klaus Voormann (bass) and Alan White (drums), and they set off for Toronto the day before the show, their only chance to choose and rehearse material being on the airplane, on unamplified electric guitars.
The Plastic Ono Band went on stage late in the day to a capacity audience of 27,000 - Brower Walker had no trouble shifting tickets once John’s involvement was announced, only difficulty in persuading people that it was true - and they performed an understandably unpolished but gritty 40-minute set divided into to distinct sections. In the first, following their introduction and tuning-up, they delivered six songs: the first three from John’s Liverpool and Hamburg days - 'Blue Suede Shoes’, 'Money (That’s What I Want)’, and 'Dizzy Miss Lizzy’ - the second three from his own considerable catalogue: 'Yer Blues’, brand new song 'Cold Turkey’ and 'Give Peace a Chance’.
Keen to link the appearance to their peace campaign, John announced before his final number “This is what we came for, really”.
The remainder of POB’s set saw John step back from the microphone and let Yoko take over (previously she’d been on stage inside a large white bag), treating the audience to an anguished 'Don’t Worry Kyoko (Mummy’s Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)’ and the 13-minute 'John John (Let’s Hope for Peace)’, neither of which went down particularly well. The performance then ended in a style similar to the 2 March concert in Cambridge, with wailing feedback, with John and the others propping their guitars against their amps before leaving the stage.’
