Jade Jagger Takes Over Mum And Dads Social Status In NYC

Mick Jagger's daughter Jade has taken over mum and dad's celebrity party thrower status in New York.

The daughter of Sir Mick and former wife Bianca was in NYC to launch a new range of jewelry by British Jeweller Garrard. Jade is the Creative Director of Garrard, House of the Crown Jeweller. The business was established in 1735. That is 35 years before Australia was discovered.

The launch party was held at the Gramercy Park Hotel with special guest, her mother Bianca, who herself held court in NY at Studio 54 in the early 70s.

Other guests included Calvin Klein, Brooke Shields, Sean Penn, Robert Kennedy Jr, Tim Robbins, and Nile Rogers.

DJs for the evening were Mark Ronson, who was recently in Australia producing the Daniel Merriweather album and DJ Rukus.

Rock Trial Made Into Movie

(04/26/04) -- One day there'll probably be a slew of films about the Rolling Stones and the first of them will revolve around the notorious drug bust which resulted in the arrests of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Commissioned by HBO, the film will feature British actor, who will play his real life father, Lord Havers, who was the defense barrister in the 1967 trial. Jagger and Richards were given prison sentences for possessing narcotics, but they were later dropper, with Jagger given a conditional discharge. Nick Fisher, who is writing the script, says that it's a story worth telling: "It's a quirky bit of English history, but it has international appeal - 1967 was just an incredible year and this incident was a very significant turning point in history and the way the media works," Fisher told the Independent on Sunday. The arrest of the Glimmer twins split the establishment in two camps, with some commentators questioning the gravity of the original sentence. The roles of Jagger, Richards and Jagger's then-girlfriend, Marianne Faithfull, will be cast sometime in the next year.

Mick Jagger And Dave Stewart Collaborate For Soundtrack

The Stones Mick Jagger is back together with Eurythmics Dave Stewart. The pair are working on three songs for the forthcoming movie 'Alfie'.

Jagger and Stewart last collaborated on Mick's 1987 solo album Primitive Cool. Dave produced the album, played guitar and co-wrote the hits 'Let's Work' and 'Say You Will'.

Mick and Dave will meet up at London's Abbey Road studio to record the three original songs 'Old Habits Die Hard,' 'Blind Leading the Blind' and 'Let's Make It Up' for the movie. Composer John Powell (Shrek, The Bourne Identity) will adapt the songs for the score and weave them throughout the movie.

'Alfie' is a remake of the 60s classic which starred Michael Caine. Jude Law will play the part of Alfie in the new film. Alfie will be directed by Charles Shyer (Father of the Bride, Private Benjamin). Shyer is also a television script writer and has written episodes of The Odd Couple and Happy Days. Jagger is excited to be working with Shyer. "I think Charles really brings this guy Alfie's experience to life. It's been a pleasure working with him" he says in a statement.

"Mick and I had a great time working on the songs for this film, and I've enjoyed being involved in the creative process from day one," says Stewart. "As the movie comes together, it feels like a classic as the themes we have written turn into songs crafted to fit the scenes and Alfie's character."

'Alfie' is currently in post-production. It will premiere in September.

Three new songs to be included in classic film remake

Mick Jagger and the Eurhythmics' Dave Stewart have collaborated on three new songs and the theme music for an upcoming remake of the classic 1966 film Alfie.
The duo are planning to enter London's famous Abbey Road Studio 2 to record "Old Habits Die Hard," "Blind Leading the Blind" and "Let's Make It Up" for the film, which stars Jude Law reprising Michael Caine's role as the iconic womanizing title character. Susan Sarandon and Marisa Tomei will also star in the Paramount Pictures remake.

"Mick and I had a great time," Stewart said. "As the movie comes together, it feels like a classic, as the themes we have written turn into songs crafted to fit the scenes and Alfie's character."

Composer John Powell will work with Jagger and Stewart to include their instrumental music into the film's score. The original film featured Oliver Nelson's classic orchestration paired with jazz legend Sonny Rollins' score and performance. The Burt Bacharach/Hal David-penned title track was written for, but not included in, the film, and Dionne Warwick had a Number Fifteen hit with "Alfie" a year later.

The new Alfie is being produced and directed by Charles Shyer, based on the Bill Naughton play and screenplay that informed the first film, and is scheduled for release this fall.

SARS Show May Not Have Been Cost-Effective

HONG KONG - Spending $12.8 million on a concert series featuring the Rolling Stones to lift spirits after a SARS outbreak may not have been cost-effective, said Hong Kong's financial secretary.

"We may have overestimated the impact of organizing 16 concerts," Henry Tang told a legislative panel investigating the government's handling of last year's event.

The Rolling Stones drew a good turnout, but overall the concerts were plagued by poor ticket sales and lineup flip-flops. Other performers included Carlos Santana, Prince and British R&B singer Craig David.

A recent government audit report said surveys showed the event "was on the whole not perceived by the public as good value for (the) money."

On average, 43 percent of the tickets were sold. Officials had expected the public to be more interested, Tang said Monday.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome sickened 1,755 people in Hong Kong last year, killing 299.

Depp Courts Richards Again

(05/05/04) -- As you know (unless you lived in a cave for the last year or two, which I envy you for), that movie star Johnny Depp modeled his Pirates of the Caribbean character "Jack Sparrow" after Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. Well, the word on the street is that Depp is now trying to persuade the veteran rocker to play the role of "Sparrow's" father in the Pirates sequel. Oh yeah. And just in case Disney gets their briefs in a bunch about the fact that Keith is known for his drug habit as he is for his guitar licks, Depp says there's more behind the man than just his image: "People, sometimes, they think, Keith Richards, oh yeah, the '70s and the drugs, and the this and the that, he's just a burn out. Not at all. He's one of the brightest most well read people I've ever met in my life." Depp owed all the praise he received for his role in Pirates to Richards and wants him to be in the sequel as a way to thank him.

A NEW British film, The Wild and Wycked World of Brian Jones, will say Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones was murdered in 1969 by East End builder Frank Thorogood.

Thorogood reportedly confessed to the murder on his deathbed in 1993, saying: "It was me that did Brian. I just finally snapped."

Stones Toronto DVD Due

AC/DC, Timberlake, Lips sets captured on June release

A DVD of last summer's Toronto Rocks concert, featuring the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Justin Timberlake, the Flaming Lips and Rush, will be released June 29th.
The sixteen-hour concert, held July 30th at Downsview Park in Toronto, was an effort to revitalize the city's flagging tourism industry, due to the much-publicized frenzy over SARS.

The concert benefited hospital employees and other workers affected by the SARS scare. Concert promoter Michael Cohl said that forty-five songwriters, ten record companies, fourteen publishers and fifteen different artists had to offer clearances for the DVD to be made; all of the artists plan to donate their royalty share to charity.

"I understand from my friends in Toronto -- although I haven't been there recently -- that the tourism in Toronto has increased and people are coming back to visit city," Stones singer Mick Jagger said in a statement. "Hopefully, this concert and the awareness that it brought did something to help."

The concert was Webcast live to 178 countries but the DVD will also include bountiful backstage footage, including Burton Cummings of the Guess Who introducing himself to Mick Jagger, and Jagger suggesting to Timberlake that they segue from the Stones' "Miss You" into Timberlake's "Cry Me a River." Footage of rowdy fans hurling plastic bottles at Timberlake during his performance is also included.

"We decided to leave it in because we thought it was great," Cohl says. "There wasn't a band on the show that hasn't experienced that. There's a particularly endearing story that Keith [Richards] talks about, when [the Stones] got tomatoes and cake and whipped cream and ice cream and all sorts of crap thrown at them earlier on in their career."

An exclusive double DVD set will be sold in Canada, with will include additional performances by Sam Roberts, Kathleen Edwards, La Chicane, the Tea Party, Blue Rodeo and Sass Jordan.
