Lou Reed Remixed and Reissued

A remixed version of an early demo of Lou Reed's 'Satellite of Love' will be released as a single in the UK on July 19.

The version of 'Satellite of Love' was recorded with Lou's band Velvet Underground on June 16, 1972. The studio recording of the song came out on his solo album Transformer released in 1973.

'Satellite of Love 2004' will be released as a 4 track CD and a 3 track 12" through NuLife Records. According to the NuLife website "The track is a remix of the Lou Reed original. Born out of an idea from South Coast production team Groovefinder, the track was finally brought to life by London remix collective Dab Hands. The remixes were crafted from the original multi-track recording of the song, which also feature backing vocals from David Bowie. Approval for the release was given after a keen record exec sent the track to Lou Reed, who gave it the thumbs up for a full commercial release".

The song has never been issued as a single before.

The Transformer album also featured 'Walk On The Wild Side' and 'Perfect Day'.

“This is not a gallery,” reads a sign above the buzzer for Studio Instrument Rentals in Manhattan. The rehearsal space (and the entirety of boho-trendy Chelsea) sits in the picturesque shadow of the abandoned elevated subway tracks running along 10th Avenue. It is a sticky New York-in-July afternoon and stoop-bound residents fan themselves with coupon circulars to the distended bleeps of reversing delivery trucks.

SIR’s lobby — a loading dock repurposed with airconditioning, black paint, black leather couches and a row of posters signed by Kiss, Elvis Costello and others — is disarmingly quiet. And dark. One gets the sense that neither time nor season matters much inside the fortified walls. It is here that THE EYE has finally run Lou Reed to ground after previous assignations foundered first in England and then in Spain, and it is exactly the sort of preserved environment in which one would expect to find this simultaneously ancient and ageless founder of 1960s Warhol-chums the Velvet Underground, this drug-abusing 1970s glam icon, avantguitarist, father to a thousand snotty punk bands and voice of Satellite of Love 2004, which entered the UK charts this week at No 10. ......

On May 17th, 2005 Sanctuary Visual Entertainment will release, for the first time ever on DVD, a live greatest hits collection, capturing the legendary Lou Reed on stage in Spain in the Summer of 2004. Aptly titled Spanish Fly: Live In Spain, the DVD features a magnificent set of eleven of Reed’s finest songs, including re-worked takes of his Velvet Underground classics ‘Sweet Jane’ and ‘Venus In Furs,’ as well as his acclaimed solo work including the undeniable classic ‘Walk On The Wild Side.’

Recorded on August 7th 2004 at the Benicassim Festival in Spain, Reed is joined by long-time collaborators Mike Rathke on guitar, bassist Fernando Saunders, drummer Tony Smith and Jane Scarpantoni on the cello. Together, these musicians showcase the artist in a powerful new light, featuring performances that show both stunning range and a resilient edge.

A celebrated musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Lou Reed began his career as a founding member of The Velvet Underground and has since then released numerous solo works to critical acclaim.

Сам музыкант относится к этому скептически: «Этот фильм - «кока-кола». Там все хорошо сделано - камера, актеры, молодые лица, но нет сердца. А то, что герои обо мне там что-то говорят... Игги, конечно. Это же он говорит. Кстати, я не помню, что там они обсуждают: только Lust For Life или весь альбом одноименный?)) Наверно альбом все-таки)) Илли Игги в целом. Помню: "Этот Игги Поп, которого ты постоянно слушаешь, да он мертвый уже давно!!!" Ответ, в изумлении: "Как это мертв? Жив."

Пересмотреть надо бы.
