Книга составлена из интервью разных лет + интервью приближенных лиц и разл. целебритис :-)
Плюс разл. фенечки-штучки, вмонтированные в книгу.
Стоит порядка 40-50 американских рублей.
Насчёт смысла, наверное имеет, т.к. прыятная во всех отношениях.
Купил я в таллинском книжном магазине "Apollo" (удачное название для бибикофской книжки, не правда ли :-), шо на ул. Ванна Вару в самом центре.
Думаю, и в Москве наверняка появится.

Праймылу дал на руках подержать. Могу и Вам.

Presidential award for BB King
Friday December 8

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Bluesman B.B. King, who picked cotton before picking up a guitar, and John "Buck" O'Neil, the grandson of a slave who became Major League Baseball's first black coach, are among this year's Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients, the White House said on Thursday.

President George Bush also named historian and author David McCullough and ex-Soviet dissident and human rights activist Natan Sharansky for America's
highest civilian honour.

"For more than half a century, the 'King of the Blues' and his guitar 'Lucille' have thrilled audiences, influenced generations of guitarists, and helped give the blues its special place in the American musical tradition," Bush said of Riley "B.B." King in his proclamation.

King, whose "60th Anniversary Tour" kicks off in January, launched his professional career in 1947, leaving the Mississippi Delta where he worked on a plantation and heading for Memphis. Last April, at his eponymous club in New York, King played his 10,000th concert.

"It's been a long journey, but I've enjoyed every minute of it, bringing the blues to so many enthusiastic audiences around the world," said the 81-year-old musician.

O'Neil, who died in October at the age of 94, was a player and manager in the Negro Leagues before becoming Major League Baseball's first African-American coach, when he joined the coaching staff of the Chicago Cubs in 1962.

When he died, Bush, a former owner of baseball's Texas Rangers, said O'Neil "represented the best of America's national pastime.

"He devoted his long and full life to baseball, and refused to allow injustice and discrimination to diminish his love of the game and his joyous, generous spirit."

McCullough is one of America's most distinguished historians. "His books have earned him the respect of general audiences and scholars alike, and he is one of our foremost experts on the American presidency," Bush's proclamation said.

Sharansky, a Russian Jew, was imprisoned in the former Soviet Union for his work to advance religious liberty and human rights. "He remained steadfast in his defiance of tyranny and has continued to champion the principles that all people deserve to live in freedom and that the advance of liberty is critical to peace and security around the world," the White House said of the former Israeli cabinet minister.

Also receiving the Medal of Freedom are: literacy advocate Ruth Johnson Colvin; Norman Francis, president of Xavier University of Louisiana; historian and journalist Paul Johnson; Joshua Lederberg, a Nobel Prize winner for his work in bacterial genetics; former transportation secretary Norman Mineta; and William Safire, a former New York Times columnist.

The recipients will be honoured at the White House on December 15.

Bush awards medal to B.B. King, dissident Sharansky By Caren Bohan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Legendary blues musician B.B. King, former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky and historian David McCullough were among those awarded the Medal of Freedom on Friday by President George W. Bush.

Bush lauded King for overcoming his hardscrabble childhood in the South to become one of the world's greatest blues guitarists and singers. King was living alone by the time he was 9 and picked cotton for 35 cents a day, Bush recalled.

"It has been said that when John Lennon was asked to name his great ambition, he said, 'to play the guitar like B.B. King,"' Bush said. "Many musicians have had that same goal but nobody has ever been able to match the skill, or copy the sound of The King of the Blues."

The Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian award.

At a ceremony in the White House East Room, Bush also praised Sharansky -- whose writings on democracy are said to have influenced Bush -- as someone who has led a "life of courage and conviction. Born to a Jewish family in Ukraine, Sharansky was accused of treason by the Soviets and imprisoned for 10 years.

He later emigrated to Israel, where he became a prominent political figure known for his hawkish views.

Bush is said to have drawn inspiration for his agenda of spreading democracy in the Middle East from Sharansky's book, "The Case for Democracy," which argues that free societies are crucial to international stability. As a measure of his interest in the book, Bush invited Sharansky for a meeting just after his 2004 re-election.

"Natan reminds us that every soul carries the desire to live in freedom and that freedom has a unique power to lift up nations, transform regions, and secure a future for peace," Bush said.

Bush also has shown interest lately in the biographies of past presidents, especially that of Harry Truman, whose struggle against communism at the start of the Cold War has been compared by Bush to the war against terrorism.

Truman left office deeply unpopular because of the Korean War but has been viewed favorably by history. Some in the White House have encouraged the notion that Bush's own legacy will be similarly redeemed, despite the huge toll the Iraq war has taken on him politically.

McCullough is noted in particular for his biographies of Truman and John Adams.

Others honored with the Medal of Freedom were former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, the late baseball player John "Buck" O'Neil, columnist William Safire, Nobel Prize-winning scientist Joshua Lederberg, British historian Paul Johnson, Xavier University President Norman Francis and literacy volunteer Ruth Colvin.

Блюзовый гитарист и певец Би Би Кинг попал в больницу техасского города Галвестон, сообщает агентство Associated Press. Причины госпитализации не уточняются.

81-летний музыкант должен был выступить с концертом в Grand Opera House в четверг, 25 января 2007 года, но выступление не состоялось. Персонал больницы сообщает, что утром в пятницу состояние Би Би Кинга было вполне удовлетворительным, и он, по всей видимости, будет выписан в субботу или даже позднее в пятницу.

Би Би Кинг (настоящее имя Riley B. King) - один из самых известных авторов и исполнителей блюза. Музыкант известен не только своими хитами, но и пристрастием к гитарам марки Gibson ES-355, каждую из которых он неизменно называл Lucille.

Отметим, что летом 2006 года музыкант заявил, что планирует отказаться от выступлений в Европе, сославшись на возраст и слабое здоровье.

Блюзовый гитарист и певец Би Би Кинг в субботу был выписан из больницы в Галвестоне, штат Техас, США, передает агентство Associated Press.

81-летний обладатель премии "Грэмми" заявил, что чувствует себя "изумительно" и во вторник уже намерен дать концерт в Форт-Уэрте. Отмененные из-за болезни музыканта концерты перенесены на июнь.

Госпитализация потребовалась в связи с высокой температурой, обусловленной вирусом гриппа. Учитывая возраст пациента, врачи решили провести медикаментозное лечение в стационаре.

Напомним, летом 2006 года Би Би Кинг объявил, что планирует отказаться от выступлений в Европе, сославшись на возраст и слабое здоровье - в частности, музыкант страдает диабетом.
