U2: История одного проекта

Что и требовалось доказать. Диск самопальный, поскольку официального сольного альбома у Боно никогда не было. Судя по количеству дуэтов, Боно не такая уж "одинокая планета". :) Диск можно было даже дополнить.

The cult Irish mini-movie 'Sightings of Bono' will soon be on DVD as part of a compilation of Irish music.

The 'Greatest Irish Bands' DVD will feature U2, Sinead O'Connor, The Pogues, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, The Corrs, Stiff Little Fingers, Hothouse Flowers, The Undertones, Boomtown Rats, The Cranberries, Rory Gallagher, and Clannad featuring Bono and also the short film.

'Sightings of Bono' is just seven minutes long. It was shot in Dublin in 2000. It is about a girl who thinks she sees Bono everywhere and then one day he walks into her shop.

The film was shown as a short in some Irish movies and was available on the internet but the DVD release will be it's commercial debut.

The DVD will be released at the end of February.

Не, ну разговоры на тему сольника Боно просто несерьёзны :)
Сроду никто из них сольниками не занимался. У меня даже как-то не очень укладывается в голове понятие "сольник Эджа", хотя Captive наиболее соответствует этому понятию из всех "побочных" работ U2... Тогда уж проект Passengers надо называть сольником Адама и Ларри при участии Боно и Эджа :))).

Вот к саундтрекам, U2 руку основательно приложили.

А вот в Саратове в продаже есть диск U2 - 7. Сие сборник. Состоит частично из старых песен, чуть измененных, а частично из заимствованных. Однако ссылок на этот диск встречать не доводилось. Кто-нибудь может сказать по поводу диска сего что-либо внятное?

U2 will re-team with STEVE LILLYWHITE, who produced the band's early records, for their tenth studio album. Though Lillywhite added some production to the 2000's All That You Can't Leave Behind, the new record will be his first full collaborative effort with the band in more than twenty years. Recording begins next week in hopes of a fall release . . .

U2 Back In The Batcave U2 guitarist The Edge has recorded the theme song for a new version of the Batman television series.

Batman is expected to premiere on American television in the third quarter of 2004.

The new Batman is set when the character is in his mid 20s and has him meeting his old adversaries for the first time. Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler and The Joker will all feature in the new show.

Bruce Wayne has been upgraded from millionaire to billionaire. Bruce Wayne/Batman is played by Rino Ramano. Ramano was more often heard but not seen in starring roles in cartoon versions of Spider Man, Ghostbusters and Men In Black.

Adam West, who played the Caped Crusader in the original 60's TV series is back, playing the part of Mayor Grange, a similar role to the old Commissioner Gordon character.

This isn't the first time U2 have been involved with Batman. They had the song 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me' and The 'Batman Forever' soundtrack from 1995.

Meanwhile, U2 are back in the studio working on their next album with producer Steve Lillywhite. Lillywhite produced the first three U2 albums and has worked regularly with U2 right up until their last album All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000).

Lillywhite's credits include albums by Counting Crows, Joan Armatrading, Big Country, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews and The Rolling Stones.

He was married to British singer Kirsty MacColl who died tragically in a boating accident while on holiday in Mexico in 2000.

Pulp, Bono, Jon Spencer show their "Love" for Nancy

Nancy Sinatra has collaborated on tracks with Morrissey, Jon Spencer, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley for To Nancy, With Love. The album pairs the Sixties icon with a generation of artists raised on her stylish pop.
The Morrissey collaboration, "Let Me Kiss You," is being tipped for early release as a U.K. single. Morrissey, an encyclopedic Sinatra enthusiast, recorded the music and his vocal and sent it to Sinatra, who then added her own vocal. "A few of my songs have made it through the years," says Sinatra, whose hits include "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," "Some Velvet Morning" (with Lee Hazlewood) and "Somethin' Stupid" (with father, Frank), "and most of the rest bit the dust. Except with Morrissey. He seems to know and love them all. And this song is very much a Nancy/Morrissey song. It's gorgeous and beautiful and romantic and lovely."

Sinatra says that the song is not recognizable as a Morrissey original . . . until its kicker, when he responds to an earlier line of "Close your eyes and think of someone you physically admire" with "You open your eyes and find someone you physically despise." "If it weren't for him singing and playing, you wouldn't know," she says, "until that line. The last line gives it away."

Cocker contributed two new songs to the project and also plays guitar in a backing ensemble that includes former Smithereen Dennis Diken on drums, Sonic Youth's Jim O'Rourke on bass, and Richard Hawley and Matt Azzarto on guitars. "Both of Jarvis' songs are very Nancy," Sinatra says. "We just had a ball recording them."

Blues demolitionist Jon Spencer added vocals and guitar to "Ain't No Easy Way," a song Sinatra recorded a few years ago. And another song, "Boss Man," is a collaboration with U.K. production team Reno, whose previous sampling of Sinatra's music helped provide some of the initial inspiration for the record. "Boss Man" is also the likely companion to the "Let Me Kiss You" single.

"We've been lucky to find some wonderful, hip musicians who say that my music has somehow influenced them," Sinatra says. "And these artists also mean something to me; I wouldn't be doing their songs if I didn't appreciate their work. I can't think of anything more flattering than to have a young person say, 'Your music really influenced me and my life.'"

That thought inspired the album's handle, with the guest artist on each track completing the album's title thought: To Nancy With Love, Morrissey; To Nancy With Love, Jarvis; and so forth, also making room for To Nancy With Love, Bono. The U2 singer contributed "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad," a tribute he initially penned for Sinatra's late legendary father.

"Though Bono's song was written for my dad, he sent it to me to include in this collection," she says, "so in a way it's still a 'To Nancy.' I get a little emotional when I sing it, for obvious reasons. It's hard for me to get through the lyrics sometimes."

Bono Goes Back to School

Singer to visit Penn for commencement

Bono has agreed to deliver the commencement address at the University of Pennsylvania on May 17th in Philadelphia.
The visit will be the U2 frontman's second address to a graduating Ivy League class. In June 2001, he appeared at Harvard's Class Day, giving a twenty-minute speech that touched on music as well as his charitable work to relieve third world debt and the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

"With his tireless efforts and use of his celebrity to remind us of our moral duties as citizens of the globe, Bono has been a powerful force for change," said Judith Rodin, president of the University of Pennsylvania, "galvanizing the action of presidents, countries and the general public."

For appearing at the University's 248th commencement, Bono will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

FCC Rule Bono Is Offensive

The Federal Communications Commission in the USA has overturned their earlier ruling and have announced that Bono's use of the F word on American television last year was indeed offensive.

Bono utter the word at the Golden Globe Awards in January 2003. In October, the FCC ruled that in the context of usage, the word wasn't obscene because Bono used it as an adjective and not in the sexual sense.

However, the FCC has been on a witch hunt ever since Janet Jackson exposed her breast at the Superbowl and has already made Howard Stern their sacrificial lamb. Now they've gone back and over-ruled their own ruling with Bono.

Michael Powell, Chairman of the FCC said in a statement that it "sends a signal to the industry that the gratuitous use of such vulgar language on broadcast television will not be tolerated".

The FCC is yet to announcement what action will be taken against Bono, if any, other than to state that they would be within their rights to issue a fine.

The FCC received over 100 complaints after the Bono incident. Millions of Americans watched the show.

Bono is currently in Dublin working on the next U2 album.
