Bonnie Raitt to Host Benefit

Musician and activist Bonnie Raitt, currently touring the country on cleaner burning biodiesel, will host a benefit event for biodiesel education at her performance in Knoxville, Tennessee. Proceeds will benefit biodiesel education programs in Tennessee through the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition and Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board.

Biodiesel is a fuel for diesel engines made from domestic, renewable products like soybean oil and other vegetable oils and animal fats. It can be used in any diesel engine with usually no modification and blended with diesel fuel at any level. Biodiesel increases energy security, significantly cuts harmful emissions and provides engine benefits, such as increased lubricity.

“I believe we should do everything we can to minimize our impact on the planet, and using biodiesel is a simple step that goes a long way, ” said Raitt. “By using B20 on my Souls Alike Tour, we are reducing pollution and putting a dent in imported petroleum. Biodiesel has come so far in the last few years. It’s wonderful to see it gaining momentum – we can all benefit from more biodiesel use.”

Raitt is using the blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent regular diesel in 2 buses and 2 tractor trailer trucks. This is the second tour in which the blues entertainer has used B20.

Blues Foundation's "Best Self-Produced CD" Semi-Finalists

The Blues Foundation has announced that the "Best Self-Produced CD" has advanced to the final eight CDs. The 8 semi-finalists listed in order of the affiliated blues society that sponsored the CD are:

They will be judged by the Round 2 judges Bob Porter, Blues Programmer, Music Choice, host of Portraits in Blue, NPR syndicated radio show in 25th year and host of Saturday Morning Function, WBGO Newark (8-10am at WBGO.org on the web); Dan Jacobsen, Publisher and Editor of Southland Blues--Southern California's Hub of the Blues; Larry Lisk, presenter of "Blues Lovers Edition" on community radio WMNF 88.5 FM, President of the Suncoast Blues Society, and agent for Skipper's Smokehouse Talent Agency, all in and around Tampa, FL; and Bill Wax, Program Director (which I think is short for Proprietor of Low-Fi's Bar and Pool Hall) for Bluesville, exit 74 on XM Satellite Radio.

2006 Keeping the Blues Alive Awards Announced

The Keeping the Blues Alive Awards Memphis, TN ­Twenty individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to Blues music will be honored with The Blues Foundation's 2006 Keeping The Blues Alive (KBA) Award during a recognition brunch Saturday, January 28, 2006 in Memphis Tennessee. The KBA ceremony will be part of the International Blues Challenge (IBC) weekend of events, Jan 26-28, 2006 that will feature the semifinals and finals of the 22nd IBC competition as well as seminars, presentations and receptions for blues societies, fans and professionals.

Unlike the Blues Music Awards, the blues musicians' most sought-after honor voted on by thousands of The Blues Foundation's members, the KBAs are awarded to non-performers on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. Board member and KBA Chairman Art Tipaldi commented on this year's recipients. "Each year the committee sifts through many worthy submissions in the process of determining the most deserving, whether that decision is based on a particular event of the past year or on years of contributions. After more than twenty years, one might think we would be running short on candidates, but the opposite is true. The sifting remains very difficult."

Вот и сейчас я его с удовольствием переслушиваю. В сайте Blues.ru - новости блюза - альбом Road We're On почему-то даже не упоминали.Почему?

Об этом блюзмене и его последнем лайфовом альбоме папан и я обменялися мнениями...Позже купил и тот, о котором Вы пишите. Хороший альбом...Но мне лично, живая работа больше понравилась. Безусловный плюс Ландрэта, это его потрясающее слайдовое мастерство и достаточно свободное незапрограмированное импровизационное мышление.
Из минусов -- не самый выразительный вокал...Но это общая беда "белого блюза"

Я сперва приобрёл Road We're On ,и перед живым знал на что иду:-).Но действительность сильно превзошла ожидания.

Оказывается, у Элвися тоже есть клёвые блюзы....

Marcia Ball Receives Grammy Award Nomination

Marcia Ball received a Grammy Award nomination for her 2005 release, LIVE! DOWN THE ROAD, in the Best Traditional Blues Album category.

“The Washington Post” calls the CD “the best showcase yet for Ball's ability to rattle the ivories.” “The New York Press” describes Marcia as “a triple threat: an incisive writer who plays the meanest barrelhouse piano this side of Professor Longhair, then completes the package with a voice brewed in swamp water, sweet and potent. Onstage she's one of the rare performers who seem to be having as much fun as we are.” The 48th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8, 2006
