NOEL QUICKLY PUT AN END TO LIAM'S LENNON ASPIRATIONS

OASIS rocker LIAM GALLAGHER is so obsessed with the late BEATLE JOHN LENNON he once impersonated his idol's accent and insisted all those around him call him 'John'.

But bandmate and brother NOEL GALLAGHER was less than impressed when his younger sibling began continuously mimicking Lennon, who originated from Liverpool, England - and quickly put him in his place.

Noel says, "Liam did once say he was the reincarnation of John Lennon to me. In my mum's front room.

"He was talking in a Scouse (Liverpool) accent for three days. He told me I should refer to him as John and I was like, 'I just prefer c**t, man.'"

Liam's Live 8 dream

Liam Gallagher says he wished Oasis could have played this weekend's Live 8 - to humilate Robbie Williams.

Gallagher told Canada's Chart magazine, if Oasis were not playing a concert the same day "we'd have been there without a doubt".

He added: "And, I'd love to. Y'know why I'd love to do that gig?

"First of all, it's f...ing awareness and all that stuff. I just love to go on and do four f...ing songs and really f...ing rip it up. Come in and f...ing bang it with f...king four of your classics.

"And walk off. And f...ing flick Robbie Williams in the eye and say: "Follow that you dick!""

Liam and brother Noel have had a long-running feud with Robbie dating back to the 2000 Brit Awards when Robbie offered to fight Liam in a boxing match.

And before his three concerts at Knebworth in 2003 the ex-Take That singer sent Noel a note inviting them to fill the support slot.

Oasis are playing at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday, July 2, as part of a UK arena tour.

SPINAL TAP STAR SHOCKED BY GALLAGHER'S CONFUSION

THIS IS SPINAL TAP star HARRY SHEARER is horrified by NOEL GALLAGHER's recent confession his younger brother LIAM thought the 1980s spoof rockers were a real band.

Last week (ends24JUN05) OASIS songwriter Noel said his sibling had stormed out of a performance by the stars of Spinal Tap after discovering they were a fake group.

Noel smirked, "He thought they were real people. We went to see them in Carnegie Hall (New York). He'd seen the film and loved it and thought they were a real band."

Shearer, who played dopey bassist DEREK SMALLS in the cult classic, laughs, "I can't believe that.

"I've met musicians who say they can't watch the film because it's too close to the real thing, but no one actually thought they were real."

NOEL CAN'T FORGIVE LIAM FOR BABY SLUR

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER walked out of the band's 2000 European tour because his brother LIAM suggested Noel's daughter ANAIS was illegitimate - and Noel will never forgive him until he apologises.

The WONDERWALL rockers have always shared a stormy relationship, but Noel admits his brother's outrageous insult regarding his beloved child, now five years old, was the last straw.

The siblings had a vicious physical fight following the slur, but Liam has never retracted the outrageous claim.

Noel complains, "In Barcelona he questioned the legitimacy of my daughter Anais.

"Even now I remember being on him and punching him and splitting his lip and thinking, 'He never really said that, did he?'

"I've never forgiven him because he's never apologised. He's at arm's length until he says sorry for what he's done."

LIAM: 'I NEVER LISTEN TO NOEL'

OASIS star LIAM GALLAGHER has angrily dismissed reports he sees older brother NOEL as a father figure.

The outspoken LYLA rocker, 32, famously feuds with his quieter sibling, and any rumours that 38-year-old Noel is his role model have further fuelled his fury.

He protests, "Is he f**k. He thinks he is but I don't listen to a word he says.

"He's the sensible one, so they say, and I'm the daft one. So they say.

"I like to have lots of fun all the time. Life's too short to be thinking of the big grand plot. By the time you've grasped it, it's time to fly."

Noel Gallagher seeing Starrs

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr understands that Fab Four-loving Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher was excited at finally meeting him.

"Yeah, well, so he should be," Starr, 65, joked recently during a Canadian exclusive interview with the Sun.

Starr's son, Zak Starkey, is currently behind the drum kit on tour with Oasis, and Starr caught a gig recently.

"I went to see them in England. It was great. I love my son and he's a great drummer and the band were great."

When Gallagher was recently in Toronto for an Oasis show, he showed off his 'Peace and Love' bracelet given to him by Starr.

"He was all he was cracked up to be. Let me tell ya," Gallagher told the Sun in an interview earlier in June.

"He wished us all, 'Peace and Love,' as he was leaving." (Does Liverpudlian accent) 'Peace and love, yeah, Peace and love.' "

Liam Gallagher to marry Appleton

Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher will marry his long-term girlfriend Nicole Appleton later this year.

The Wonderwall singer and his former All Saint partner already have a child together - four-year-old Gene - and they plan to wed in a low-key ceremony in Scotland.

A friend of the couple tells British newspaper the Daily Star: "Liam and Nicole want to lie low when it comes to their big day, they really hate fuss and attention."

The happy couple have already chosen a manor house in Linlithgow as the location for their special day: "It is magical and they fell in love with it as soon as they saw it. The property is set in three acres of garden and they're ordering a bright red marquee for the occasion.

There will also be a red and gold theme throughout the day and the guests will be asked to wear either of the colours. Fire-eaters have been booked and there will be a bouncy castle for the kids.

Gallagher and Appleton are planning a small ceremony with only family and close friends on the guest list - and they plan to spend their honeymoon in the picturesque town.

Surly rockers Oasis have an unlikely new adversary — Auburn, New York heavy metal band Manowar.

That's what happens when you stop singer Liam Gallagher in mid-brag about how Oasis are "like, the loudest band in the fucking world onstage" and tell him that the Guinness Book Of World Records instead favours Manowar.

"But they're loud and shit though, aren't they? They're just shit," Gallagher says emphatically.

Seated beside him, bassist Andy Bell is somewhat perplexed.

"Who are they anyway?" Bell asks. "Heavy metal?"

"Fuck Manowar," interjects Gallagher decisively.

There's a pause as Liam's insult sinks in. Then Bell replies dryly, "That was a good point anyway. A bit blunt of you, but well made."

Equally blunt and well-made is the newest Oasis record, Don't Believe The Truth. It's a decided return to form after the disappointment of 2002's Heathen Chemistry. But that's all information a listener will be able to glean for themselves. When presented with an opportunity to chat up one of the battling Gallaghers there's more important things to discuss. Like Weezer.

"Yeah, we met [Weezer]," says Gallagher. "I like 'em. They're one of those bands you see on TV and go, 'I just like 'em.' I think they're pretty alright."

Gallagher saves his highest praise for Weezer's frontman Rivers Cuomo.

"Very strange man, him," says a bemused Gallagher. "He's my new favourite rock star. He freaked me out.

"He's just the total opposite to me, man. He's just very timid. He's like Yoda or something. But I respect that. He's a top man. There's totally a place for him. He's like the Andy Warhol of fucking music, that's what I think."

There won't, however, be a place for Oasis at the big London, U.K. edition of the Live 8 festival on July 2. According to Liam, it's not because they didn't want to though. They were already booked for a sold out gig at the City Of Manchester Stadium.

"If we were free we'd be there man," says Gallagher. "And I am a bit disappointed, but that's life man. Our shows were booked. And I had a word with management the other day, and I said 'Look, I feel a bit guilty.' Everyone's down there doing all this, know what I mean? We're down the road doing our thing. A little bit of guilt kicked in. I thought maybe we should fucking book... then it's 60,000 kids disappointed.

"But if we weren't doing a gig that day we'd have been there without a doubt. And I'd love to. Y'know why I'd love to do that gig?

"First of all, it's fucking awareness and all that stuff," he says, before getting to the real meat of why he wanted to play. "I just love to go on and do four fucking songs and really fucking rip it up. Come in and fucking bang it with fuckin' four of your classics. And walk off. And fucking flick Robbie Williams in the eye and say 'Follow that you dick!'"

COLLINS HITS BACK AT GALLAGHER BROTHERS

Former GENESIS star PHIL COLLINS has hit back at OASIS rockers NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER, after being the target of a string of insults from the brothers.

The LAND OF CONFUSION drummer moved from Britain to Switzerland several years ago to be with his third wife ORIANNE, and is amused to hear the Gallagher brothers believe he left the UK in 1997 when Labour leader TONY BLAIR was voted in as prime minister.

Just before the latest general election in May (05), in which Blair won a third term as prime minister, Noel urged Brits to vote Labour because "if the Tories (Conservatives) get in, Phil is threatening to come back and live here".

However, Collins maintains he doesn't even vote Conservative, saying, "Noel calls me the anti-Christ. It frustrates me but who cares?

"I'm so flattered the Gallaghers spent a lot of time thinking about me. I've repaid the compliment. I've just done the TV show ROOM 101 and they're both in it."

GALLAGHER AND KENSIT END FEUD FOR SON

OASIS star LIAM GALLAGHER and his ex-wife PATSY KENSIT have ended their bitter feud for the sake of their son LENNON, who was hospitalised last Thursday (28JUL05).

The couple ended their three-year marriage in 2000, and entered into a public war of words following their bitter divorce battle, with Kensit accusing the WONDERWALL star of causing her years of therapy and a stint in rehab for cocaine addiction.

But the sparring pair overcame their differences, and took their three-year-old son to London's exclusive Portland Hospital for minor surgery.

A close friends says, "Patsy and Liam are getting on a lot better than they used to.

"Lennon was really nervous about going into hospital. Both Patsy and Liam wanted to be there for him to comfort and assure him everything would be fine.

"It was a routine operation and Lennon is now back at home doing fine."

Liam Gallagher Compares Himself To Elvis

Not known for his modesty, Oasis front man Liam Gallagher has been extolling his own virtues yet again…this time by comparing himself to Elvis.

Oasis are headlining the three day Benicassim festival in Spain this weekend, where Liam told Spanish newspaper El Mundo “There’s Elvis and me. I couldn’t say which of the two is best”

Liam has a reputation for his frank views, with the Scissor Sisters, Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party all taking a tongue lashing from the mouthy Mancunian of late.

We think the boy should keen on dreaming…

Noel Gallagher has admitted he was so high on drugs when he wrote most of his hits - that he really doesn’t have the foggiest what the fuck they're all about.

The Oasis star says: “I get the odd night when I’m halfway through Don’t Look Back In Anger when I say to myself, ‘I still don’t know what these words mean!’”

“I’m thinking what the…what the… ‘stand up beside the fireplace. Why.’”

Femalefirst have revealed that the poor bloke is so perplexed that he’s even considering asking his sweaty little teenage fans for some help:

“All these kids will be singing it at the top of their voices with all their arms around each other and I kind of feel like stopping and going, ‘Look, can somebody help me out here? Am I missing something?”

OASIS COMPILATION FREE IN THIS WEEK'S NME

OASIS have compiled a brand new album exclusively for NME.

The band, who are set to headline this weekend’s V Festival (August 20-21), have hand-picked their favourite support bands from their recent global tour and put them all on ’Oasis On The Road – World Tour 2005’ – available for free with this week’s issue.

Amongst the bands featured on the LP are Jet, The Zutons, The Futureheads, The Coral, Yeti and Secret Machines.
