Paul McCartney is like the black clothing; he will never go out of style, never. The good thing about this golden god is that he still enjoys the thrill of performing for live audiences. Some of us were lucky enough to be at Coachella in April and enjoy the amazing set by Paul McCartney (let me just add, he was too nice to us on that stage), but if you weren’t, do not worry because McCartney will also be performing at New York’s Citi Field on its opening weekend, next month.
However, McCartney wasn’t always so confident in facing today’s crowd of edgy bands and young audiences, but after he performed at England’s Glastonbury Festival in 2004, he was golden.
Check out what he has to say on performing to a 2009 crowd below…
“What had help me up from doing Glastonbury before was that idea that it was so young and so hip,” he said. But shortly after finding out that these youngsters hung around campfires singing Beatles songs at night, he jumped on board and overcame the jitters.
It is true that if you are fan, a Paul McCartney concert won’t be like any other show you have ever been to, but rather like an out-of-body experience, trust me. One of the reasons might be because McCartney pulls in masses of people with his music and charisma.
His set list gets people off with Beatles classics like Let It Be, Wings hit Band on the run and solo standout Flaming Pie.
“I like festivals. I like the vibe. I like the idea of people coming together as a culture,” he says. Perhaps this means that McCartney will be headlining more festivals? This summer, next summer? We could only hope.
However if you expected a Beatle reunion like the one on April 4 at the benefit for the David Lynch Foundation, don’t get your hopes up too high. McCartney mentioned that is was fun, but it happened unexpectedly. Lynch was the one who asked him to do the benefit and later asked Ringo, and it became a reunion concert.
But being Paul McCartney has its ups and downs.
“You get fed up being him,” he says, “You’re always that guy.” We all know that living up to a name like Paul McCartney is a difficult task, but the Beatle is happy to do what he does, which is delighting crowds with the old and the new.
“When my name is on the marquee, I’m very happy about it,” he says, “recharges your battery. if you do this all the time, you’d get bored and jaded. I’m not jaded. I still love what I do.”
Though there has been some hard times in recent years for McCartney, starting with the death of his first wife Linda in 1998. Followed by the death of ex-Beatle George Harrison in 201, and his divorce in 2008 from Heather Mills. But McCartney understands that people his age go through similar things such as losing loved ones and divorces.
“How do I do it?” I remember the good times.”
As for Paul McCarney’s appearance at NY’s Citi Field, tickets will go on sale June 15 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
