Sir Paul awaiting Beatles back catalogue

Rock veteran Sir Paul McCartney is hopeful he will regain the rights to The Beatles hits in 10 years, because copyright laws mean he will regain what is rightfully his.

McCartney, 64, was outbid by former friend Michael Jackson for the rights to the songs in 1985, who reportedly sold them on to Sony Records in recent years in a bid to get out of debt.

Currently, McCartney has to pay outsiders every time he wants to play Beatles tracks he wrote himself with former bandmate John Lennon.

He says, "In about the 10 years, a lot of it returns to me, just legally.

"Some of the important rights are about to return, which I didn't realise.

"You know what doesn't feel very good, is going on tour and paying to sing all my songs. Every time I sing Hey Jude, I've got to pay someone."

Neighborhood Villagers Are Glad McCartney And Mills Split

Everybody in a British small town is hip-hip-hooraying and doing a little happy dance. Paul McCartney's neighbors in his home village are delighted he and Heather Mills are no longer together.

The villagers of Peasmarsh, in southern England, say they never liked the former Beatle's second wife in the same way they were fond of his first wife, the late Linda McCartney.

One resident told Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "We never saw Heather in the village or at fetes. Linda used to get so involved in village life and community projects. She even launched her vegetarian food range here. She was well liked. We never really got to know Heather whereas Paul is the salt of the earth and part of community life."

Paul and Heather split in May and the couple are currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle. Heather is reportedly demanding $255 million of the music legend's $1 billion fortune.

The singer spent $1.5 million building a Heather a dream lodge on the 160-acre estate in Peasmarsh, but Heather always preferred to spend time at their seaside home in nearby Hove, or in London.

McCartney guests on Al Jarreau's new album

At 66, Jarreau remains as active as ever. He recently joined a new label (Concord) and last spring recorded an album with guitarist George Benson called "Givin' It Up," which is due for release later this month. He and
Benson also toured together this summer.

When the idea for a collaboration was first proposed by a Concord producer, Jarreau said the response was, "Let's go, baby. When do you want to start? Yesterday?"

Jarreau says the "Givin' It Up" sessions were the fastest, most intense recording experience of his career.

"We did the record, I think, in less than 25 recording days. That's an amazing clip to be going at. Typically for me a record takes 14, 16 weeks. You take your time. You build the songs, the new music. You add things. You take things out. You try new things.

"This was first notions that we went with, and it worked out. . . . There's just something about those fresh new ideas, the spontaneity of the moment and going with your first instincts."

Plenty of help

"Givin' It Up" boosts an imposing array of supporting talent. The backup players include Chris Botti, Herbie Hancock and Patrice Rushen. Patti Austin and Jill Scott made guest appearances, and Paul McCartney made a surprise visit that turned into a duet on Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me."

"We were recording at the old A&M studios, which is the old Charlie Chaplin studios, and it's a big complex with a bunch of recording studios, . . . " Jarreau said. "So Paul was there working on a project of his. He knows
George (Benson). George did a project called 'The Other Side of Abbey Road.'

I think it was after that project that they met along the way and hugged and expressed their feelings for one another's music.

"So [McCartney] just popped in. We all fell on the floor. He and George were just hugging and dancing around. George said, 'Come on, sing on this song.'

He came back two days later and sang 'Bring It on Home. . . . '

"What a gentleman. What a sweetheart. How open. He sang two takes, and George begged him for one more, and he gave it to us. It's a lovely piece of work."

Little Miss Stella's naughty swipe at Heather Mills

Given the opportunity to help create her very own Mr Men book, Stella McCartney made sure her character resembled her down to the finest detail.

Like the designer, Little Miss Stella has the 'amazing gift' of being able to make clothes for anyone, a spattering of freckles across her nose and brown hair.

However on closer inspection it seems there is more than one familiar character in the limited edition Little Miss storybook.

It tells how Little Miss Stella takes pity on invisible Little Miss Nobody and makes her an outfit that immediately turns her into a somebody.

Yesterday friends of Stella's were questioning whether the Little Miss Nobody was a thinly veiled reference to her stepmother Heather Mills who experienced a similarly remarkable rise in fortunes when she married into the McCartney clan.

One said: 'No one's saying that she wrote this book with Heather in mind but they are obviously a few similarities and a few of us close to Stella in the fashion world are having a giggle about it.'

The two women have a notoriously volatile relationship.

Stella, 35, was said to be unhappy when Sir Paul McCartney began dating Miss Mills and failed to publicly congratulate her father and his new wife on the birth of their daughter Beatrice.

However their relationship thawed and Miss Mills, who used her famous name to help publicise her charity work, made a point of shopping in her designer stepdaughter's stores and wearing her clothes.

Miss Mills bitter split from Sir Paul has once again driven a wedge between the pair.

Earlier this year Stella approached Adam Hargreaves, who took over as author and illustrator of the Mr Men and Little Miss books following his father Roger's death in 1988.

She is a huge fan of the books and suggested a collaboration.

1,000 Little Miss Stella books have been produced and are being used as invites to her fashion show at ParisFashion Week today.

Stella has also created a range of clothes with her character on them which will be sold in aid of The Variety Club, a children's charity.

In the book Little Miss Stella bumps into Little Miss Nobody, who is invisible, while walking in the woods and takes pity on her.]

She works through the night to make her an outfit.

The clothes make Little Miss Nobody visible and everyone starts to say hello to her causing her to declare: 'I am no longer a nobody, now I am a somebody.'

The comment could well describe 38-year-old Miss Mills' experience on meeting Sir Paul.

She grew up on a sink estate in Washington, Tyne and Wear, and worked as a cocktail waitress and glamour model.

Recently pictures emerged of her posing naked for a pornographic German book in the late 1980s.

They were followed by allegations she had also worked as a high class prostitute during that period.

After losing a leg in an accident in 1993 Miss Mills threw herself into charity work - organising the export of prosthetic limbs to war zones.

However her status rose dramatically when she met Sir Paul, 64.

After they married she styled herself Heather Mills McCartney and travelled the world publicising her minefields and anti-fur campaigns.

She was interviewed by Michael Parkinson and US chatshow host Larry King and even turned her hand to interviewing, appearing as guest host on the Larry King TV Show twice as well as sitting on the panel of BBC Question Time and appearing on the cover of Hello magazine.

She and Sir Paul split earlier this year and are now embroiled in a bitter divorce.

Proud Sir Paul makes Stella's show a family affair

It was family business as usual for Sir Paul McCartney at his daughter Stella's fashion show in Paris yesterday.

Despite the recent acrimony surrounding his impending divorce from Heather Mills, the keeper of the "Beatle flame", wearing a neat, black suit and multi-coloured, flower-power shirt, was in relaxed and carefree mood.

"I'm feeling fine," a smiling Sir Paul said, backstage in the run-up to the show — the first he has attended for several seasons — as he stood proudly with his heavily-pregnant designer daughter who is expecting her second child with husband, Alasdhair Willis, this Christmas. "She's the best," he said.

Sir Paul laughed and joked as he played with his youngest grandson, Miller, 18 months, teaching the toddler to run through his legs, and then went walkabout with Stella, meeting the various members of her studio team.

Stella said she was learning to juggle the demands of being a working mother, adding: It's all a question of balancing the two in a healthy way.

"But I would never prioritise my career over my children."

Sir Paul then took a front-row seat to watch the show.

The collection, for spring/summer 2007, was deftly balanced for the modern mother, offering two silhouettes: one to cater for "the bump" and the other to enhance her return to pre-pregnancy shape.

The mood, as Stella explained, was "flattering and easy to wear. My kind of clothes". This translated as a new, voluminous, all-in-one shirt-body romper suit in white or olive soft cotton, contrasted with a figure-hugging, halter-neck, micro-sundress, both accessorised with strappy, raffia, stack-heeled sandals.

McCartneyThere was more fullness in gathered, cape-shouldered blouses and tunics, while other shirts featured elements of the anorak in their drawstring hems.

Balloon-sleeved smocks came in an enlarged, turquoise and white diamond print, as opposed to a briefer, layered T-shirt dress, in plain turquoise silk, scooped low over the décolletage and cut high on the thigh.

Dresses for the party circuit included flattering A-line shifts in pale rose, white and silver plastic sequins, fitted mini-dresses with short, bubble-skirts in silver lame and black, organza, micro-shifts in tiers of horizontal pleats.

Heather's trainer is First Class company

Not many personal trainers get to accompany their boss in first-class luxury when they cross the Atlantic. But then not many fit young men work for Heather Mills.

Ben Amigoni, 24, has hardly left Heather's side since she launched her bitter battle for a slice of Sir Paul McCartney's £825 million ($1.5 billion) fortune.

He joined her in the £4,000 ($7,500) seat to Los Angeles, apparently confirming that Sir Paul is still paying his 38-year-old wife a more than generous allowance.

And when they landed, he sat in the front as she drove them away from the airport in her car.

Friends claim the pair have struck up a close relationship since he joined her staff two months ago. They became friends during one-on-one sessions at the Hilden Health Club in Rye, near Sir Paul's East Sussex home.

It is not the first time Amigoni has enjoyed the trappings of first-class travel - but on previous visits to LA with his new boss insiders say he was introduced as one of her bodyguards.

Sources claim last time they flew together he was deliberately not checked in with Ms. Mills as part of her entourage.

At Heathrow Mills - who stands to make £200 million ($375 million) in the costly divorce settlement with the ex-Beatle - was seemingly travelling alone, but by the time she arrived in LA she was accompanied by Mr. Amigoni.

Heather Mills' Road Rage

Heather Mills honked her horn and hit the accelerator while trying to exit a parking garage. And don't expect her to put the top down on her convertible purple PT Cruiser - even in sunny Los Angeles.

That's because everywhere the soon-to-be-ex-wife of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney goes she is mobbed by photogs.

In this video, Mills is clearly irritated by the paparazzi who circle her car while she waits a minute or two to get past the gate.

She leaned on the horn twice and when she finally had a clear path, we distinctly heard the screech of tires. Baby, you can't drive my car.
